"1.21 gigawatts? Great Scott!"

ALL???
As in every cover on the site? Seriously? We're talking about 10.000+ covers, several gigabyte worth of covers???

Wait, which Game X Change store are you? I know you are a store, that's why you want to download all of them at once and I know there are several Game X Change stores in a variety of states down in the south like Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas.

I think it would be nice to have like a base torrent with all of the current covers, then like every 2 months an "update" comes out with more accepted covers. Why do I want this? Because I'd like to have them all backed up in case the worse happens.

I think rather than a 'all covers' download, maybe just 'all [console] covers' rar files or something. Maybe even seperate files for each region and template style, too. Personally, I love [a lot of] cover art, and like having it sitting on my computer to look at every so often.
I don't think it'd be too useful for people selling pirated copies, as they'd really only want covers for the few games they're selling.

Might be difficult to keep it up to date, though.

Who wants to pay the bandwith?

Torrents would be the only way to go....

I'd like it too, it'd be pretty neat to have on hand.  I'd probably recommend setting up torrents by console manufacturer or something, all the Nintendo consoles, all the Atari consoles, etc.  Maybe the companies that only released one machine might be grouped together or something as well.  Just broken up in a way that prevents having an unreasonably large and unmanageable torrent.

Does anyone know how big the collection of covers sits at?  As in, the number of DVDs I'd have to burn it to?

I'd gladly seed the torrent for as long as possible, I too would like a backup in case the site gets shut down somehow. I'd simply organize it how we have it on the sidebar, in two folders. Console, with proper subfolders for each console then each game, and the same for handhelds. We just need someone to keep track of the RSS feed and the latest covers not added to the torrent. Too bad there wouldn't be a way to automate this process...

Oh I'm sure someone code-savvy could make a bot to do it, doesn't sound THAT hard (but then again my programming experience is nil so...)

Let me just clue you in on a little secret.... the current covers directory is sitting at 37GB with another 15GB in pending uploads. If we get even a handful of people trying to pull down every cover in our collection, i'm going to get a nasty call and probably a massive bill from my hosting provider. That's the quickest way to get the site shut down because I don't have a ton of cash sitting around to pay a massive bandwidth bill. On top of that, if I published the collection on BT, there would be no point in running this site any longer.

Over the years I've had numerous requests for copies of the entire collection or large subsets of it and the reality is that we provide these covers for the community for individual gamers looking to print out missing covers, not for stores. If stores want to use them to print out covers for their missing games, I'm fine with that but it would be quite a bit of work for me to collect the requested covers and arrange for that amount of data to be transmitted and I just don't have the time nor the desire to do it.

I've got backups that run daily and backup to a mirrored array at my house so we aren't in danger of losing our covers. I've also publicly stated that if for some reason we got shut down, I would drop the entire collection out on BT and that would be the end of it.

I admire the enthusiasm around this whole idea, but with a collection this large it really isn't feasible and it changes daily.

I was simply wondering if there was a way download all of them at once. I was not asking for people to spend tons of time and money to try and do this. If it can't be done then it can't be done. Thanks.

Oh I understand. There is a way, I'm just the only one with the access to do it at this point.

Well, if you do find a way to do it easily, message me or something because I would be interested in trying it. Thanks for your time.
