Wanted to share a set of labels I designed for Gamecube memory cards that are dedicated to booting up GBI—a homebrew alternative to the boot disc that came with the Game Boy Player. Images below link to the printable files.

One of the designs applied to a memory card:

I made 3 different styles, as well as versions for the various latency builds.

Boot from a memory card? I thought it was just from a SD card or a swiss disc?? 🤔🤔🤔

It's possible to load a hacked save file and the GBI build of choice onto a memory card (using a homebrew wii and GCMM). Windwaker for example can be exploited to boot into GBI by simply pressing the start button at the start screen. SD adapter and/or Action Replay aren't needed.

This guy made a nice video walkthrough... https://youtu.be/cdvY1vx5vMo

That's awesome! I have to try that but I am too lazy... any chance we can buy a "pre-loaded" card somewhere?
Couldn't find any on ebay.

Don't know of anyone doing that. Selling it pre-loaded would arguably be seen not as a service, but rather profiting from the developer's hard work.

If anyone wants to send me a memory card, I can put the proper files on it. I'm doing this for a few people on Reddit as well. You just have to pay for shipping both ways. Just post on here and we can work out details over PM.

Way back when Animal Crossing first came out on GameCube, I used to do the same on the gamefaqs forums. I'd put save files with the 19 NES games unlocked for people. I actually discovered a method to get the "forbidden four" NES games (Zelda, SMB, Ice Climber and Mario Bros) before Action Replay did it.

Wow that’s awesome! Is it possible to do without any special hardware? I’d love to get those on my AC.

Well, kinda. I had this memory card with a USB port on it. It allowed you to copy saves to and from a PC. I also have the Japanese version of Animal Crossing (the non eReader one). For the Japanese game, you can write yourself letters to get all the Famicom games. I got all the games this way, and copied my save to the computer. I forget exactly how I did everything, but I think once I copied the save where I had all the games in my inventory, I went back to the game and dropped them on the ground. Once the save was on the computer, I could delete the now empty inventory save off of my memory card and put the PC save back on my card. Doing this multiple times could give me multiple copies of each game/ item. Through trial and error, I figured with a hex editor that out I could paste the "header" or some part of the beginning of the US AC travel data save into my Japanese travel data, and it would work on the US game! Some of the items would be glitchy and not work, which is why I gave myself multiple copies of each game I needed. It would give me the US equivalent of the Japanese game or item. Once I did this, I was able to make "clean" copies of these games and stuff using only the US game. I gave people either travel data or a new save town with all the games, whatever worked better for each situation.

I can give you travel data with everything on it, but it would be a while before I found my game, my save data and everything else.

I made a video of my Japan to US conversion, but who knows where that is these days.

Wow that’s some serious work! I need to learn more about using Swiss, but I believe something similar could be accomplished with it.
