Hey there. I modified an old Wii Remote to insert a Raspberry Pi Zero W, in addition to the functional Wii Remote board and buttons. WiiPi? We Pee? Anyway, with the power of bluetooth, the Wii Remote controls the Pi, but there's also a USB port to plug in additional controllers or a keyboard. I soldered a full size USB port to the board, as you can see in the pictures. The micro USB data port is still there, but covered by the Wii Remote plastic. The other reason for this was so my friend, who this is for, wouldn't get the power micro usb and data micro usb ports confused. The power micro USB and mini HDMI ports are accessible on the side/ top of the Wii Remote (top because the remote is always used in the sideways NES-style configuration in this project). The full size USB is parallel to these on the bottom. I relocated the B button from the back to the front, where the speaker used to be. I've removed the speaker, motion sensors and top of the Wiimote board, where the power button used to be. All of these were lucky guesses that the remote would still work (it does!, but probably not anymore on a Wii/ Wii U).

So everything works, but I know it's not very pretty. I know I'm no Wiggy. The thing isn't really portable, as it needs to be plugged in, and HDMI'd to a TV. I don't care about that. My problem is that I can't close the top all the way. I have the 4 screws screwed in behind the battery door, and I was just on an airplane, so I couldn't bring the tri wing screwdriver with me, so I cannot take it apart, as it's being delivered today.

The old B button plastic is glued down so it doesn't move. I had to gut the electronics and a lot of the plastic in the area around it so the pi (and the new USB port) could sit there, under the remote board. I drilled a hole next to the power button for a reset button. The new power and reset buttons were salvaged from some dollar store items, and they are wired to the GPIO ports on the Pi, along with some scripting I found online for the power button to function.

None of the mounting plastic is there anymore inside of the part of the remote where the black dpad (from a broken Classic Controller) and A button are. I can squeeze the remote together, and if I wrapped electrical tape around it, it would probably stay shut. Then I can cram the reset and power wires back in (the micro SD card can be removed from here too, without taking anything apart.

Other than screws, what are other "elegant" ways of closing this thing back up? Here's a link to my Google drive folder with pics.

Seems a tad too tight for comfort.

If this were my project, I'd most likely just add a spacer to give myself more room.  But making something like that by hand would be a pain in the ass, at best (I would likely laser cut the spacer, or possibly design and print a part).  Still, it's doable by hand.

I just ended up shoving the wires back inside and just left it open. Works well enough.
