I had confidence that the problem was temporary, but since there was no way to communicate with anyone else, it was a little unnerving.
TDI brings up a good point
Any thoughts on creating a TCP twitter or FB account or something else where in the event of the site being down like this, there's a way to reassure people easier?

Sort of like when you are a little kid at the fair and your family all agrees that if we get lost, we will meet up at one place.  We can do the same thing with a facebok page.  If we get lost (site shut down), we can all meet on facebook. :P
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

I actually think twitter.com/thecoverproject is one I control, but I've clearly never posted anything there. Let me dig into it.

I'm on board with this idea.

I used to like IRC a lot, it could be a good option, but at the same time, it may steal away lots of forum activity. At least, on IRC, you can see the list of people present even if not participating.

IRC is great, but it's not the best chat for image based things and it would split the site and the conversation. In that case, we'd be better of starting a subreddit and purely hosting content here.

What ever happen to the new design to the site you talked about last year?

You had to bring that up huh?  ;)

TCP is an interesting site from a technology perspective. It's plain PHP, but rides on top of SMF for many functions. That means i have a lot of pieces to build to separate from SMF (which needs to happen). THe visual style is a point of contention. I personally hate the design today, which is fair since I designed it. :) I've asked for feedback on many of the early design ideas and they've not been widely liked so here we are. :)

Opps... Sorry about that. I really meant... Hey! What's up!?

Checking various "is this down or is it just me" sites all told me the same thing - that it WAS just me, which is very odd, seeing that it quite clearly wasn't...

Still, I'm very glad TCP is back up!

I experienced the same thing.  From what I can tell, the site wasn't technically 'down", just blank.  So it would always take me to a blank white page, and still register as "working"

I haven't played with these for a long time now and setting them up with IIS can be a bi-atch but i got it working.
I never knew M$ had that WebPI tool for IIS. Pretty Co0l.

@ Snowcone:
I've just installed the forum that you had mentioned and it was a quick and easy process. Looks interesting but much different. I'll mess around with it.

Migration on my local server was easy but i'm attached to a particular directory name. id est, if you must have the default directory as tcp.net/forums/ then you would have to perform offline adjustments. Otherwise, it appears to me that you make a new directory (say tcp.net/chocolate/) and the sweet stuff is ready to go  ;D

Looks promising ...
