I have a dead zone on my scanner as well. I took a file folder which has a perfect 90 degree edge on the outside and cut out a perfect 90 degree corner on the inside (this needs to be precise and is difficult to do, but it only has to be done ONE TIME). Therefore, I created new 90 degree edge guide which is large enough to get my documents outside of the dead zone. Since it's a file folder, the other half is used to lay on top of the document being scanned to hold it down and create a uniform color behind the image. This has made scanning much easier and I have not received any complaints about my scans being out of alignment.
If my description isn' helping, I will take pictures of everything later tonight.
With that said, it really brings my piss to a boil that I have to go through such BS to get my scans straight. What is the purpose of the edge guide if you can't use it.
