Title: NES - UMC Covers for reproductions/hacks?
Post by: nesguy on February 24, 2010, 03:18:52 AM
I've picked up several reproduction games, and was wondering if anyone has made any Universal Media Case custom covers for ones like these before (these are the 5 I own so far) -

NES - Earthbound (US) - (nesguy) - red label design - http://www.gamereproductions.com/products/Earthbound-Zero-%28Red-Label%29.html#
NES - Mega Man Ultra (US) - (nesguy) - http://www.gamereproductions.com/products/MegaMan-Ultra.html#
NES - Legend of Zelda: Outlands (US) - nesguy - gold design - http://www.gamereproductions.com/products/Legend-of-Zelda-Outlands-%28Gold-Label%29.html#
NES - Sweet Home (US) - (nesguy) - http://www.gamereproductions.com/products/Sweet-Home.html#
NES - Mike Tyson's Intergalactic Power Punch (US) - (nesguy) - http://www.thenesdump.com/screen%20shot%20pages/prototypes/mike%20tysons%20power%20punch.htm

I picked them up from www.gamereproductions.com, and the label artwork over there for these games is what I have, but no raws unfortunately.  The reason I put (US) for all of them is because they are all in English (even the ones that weren't released over in the US).  So English backs would be great.

Any thoughts?  Thanks to anyone that can help!

BY ANY CHANCE HAVE YOU TRIED ANY OF THE SNES REPRO GAMES?

No, I have not tried any of the SNES ones, just NES.  I hear most of them are good, but they are a bit more expensive than the NES ones from what I've seen.  I wouldn't mind a Dragon Quest V or VI, though.

That reminds me of Final Fantasy Legend's boxart. Is that what you were going for?

Its based from a magazine scan i fell upon a long time ago advertising Final Fantasy II for the NES & Final Fantasy Legend II on the GB.

Whoa. Nintendo planned on releasing Final Fantasy II (NES) in the US? That must date from between mid 1990 but before mid 1991 when Final Fantasy II (IV for SNES) was starting to be advertised. I'm really quite impressed you were able to reconstruct the cover from that old ad!

Its turned out alright so far, i had to run the main image through a bunch of filters and vector magic. The images i have found aren't very good quality so some of the detail was lost when trying to recreate it  :'(
One of my main challenges is figuring out what to write on the back of the box. I'm not a fan of final fantasy so i don't know the storyline or informaion for this title. I have to rely on the net for info which doens't always work (for some reason i think the desciption on the back of my earthbound cover isn't accurrate because of the same problem).

To my knowlege FFII was in the same state as Mother was for us stateside. Both had an official translation finished and prototypes were made but ultimately were scrapped from production to make way for the SNES.

Id love to see a section on here for Reproduction Covers. I have quite a few Repros for my NES, SNES, and Genesis. Id love to have a nice Secret of Mana 2 or Mega Man & Bass NTSC style cover. I have some decent sized art to use from when I made my labels.
