Title: Major Forum Upgrade
Post by: Snowcone on February 24, 2020, 04:09:15 PM
So yes, I upgraded the forum and the old theme didn't work on the new version of the software. This is temporary until I can adjust it with the right logo and everything. Yes, I know, you are all freaking out. :)

Definitely caught me off guard.  I thought for a second that I must have clicked on the wrong link. :P

The temp theme I had up for a bit said "Gaming Nation". I figured it would throw everyone for a loop.

Now the next best thing will be a dark mode you can toggle on/off.

Actually I really like this new look.
Bit too bright... but what eva.

And all seem to work faster.

And accessing front page is impossible once you access forums or guides (except thru address bar).

I'm working on adding back in some site level navigation. I'll see if I can find a serviceable dark theme to go with this

Whoa a new design. Nice but a bit on the bright side. One more important thing I ask myself is... where are the Covers?

I'm patiently waiting for the ability to upload covers.

Dark theme or just bit less white/more gray backgrounded (like previous was) would look good.

One funny addition I found was there is option to download user's profile data as textfile.
Pretty much same as going to someone's profile and highlighting and copying the text...

You still get to the front page by using http://www.thecoverproject.net.
It's just that if you go to boards or guides you can't go back by clicking, only by entering the address again manually (or by having bookmark).

Still there, just haven't been able to set it up to have them integrated into this theme.

Hang in there. Had to get this done first. Trying to get this knocked out. I know it's a pain.

@Arseen - if you go into your form profile for look and feel, I started working on a dark version of the forum. It's got a long way to go, but it's there as a starting point.

Yea a bit bright for me as well. A dark mode would be most welcome.

Wow! I didn't expect to see the forum look like this. I think this new look is cool! I'm looking forward to reviewing and putting covers on the main site. It will be my first time doing that since I got promoted to Cover Admin.

No go I Think.
I'll check again at home on my own computer and Firefox but at least here at work site goes to text mode when I choose the dark mode.
I tried on 2 computers, 3 different browsers (Chrome, Edge & Internet Explorer).

For some reason I seem to be having problems logging into the new forum with the new Edge Chromium.  It either says there's a verification issue or that I tried too many times.  I can login / logout fine in Chrome.

I thought edge was going away.

It did in a sense.  They completely rebuilt it using the Chromium open source engine. It's pretty much a Microsoft branded version of Chrome.  I've been using it since Beta for months and like it just as much if not better then Chrome at this point.  It got an official release in mid January and will be rolled out to all Windows 10 users soon if not already.   It's a much better browser for Windows based corporate environments at this point especially if you are utilizing Azure AD / Cloud connected apps.

I fixed this BTW... It was just a cookie / data issue.

Would it be simple enough to add a spoiler tag module to this forum now that it's been updated? I would really like to use them to break down a megapost into smaller bits. (Put covers in spoiler tags A-F, G-L, M-S, T-Z and click to open and close the sections)

I'll look into it.

Am I going crazy or did the Recent Forum Threads section on the front page get smaller (from like 16x feeds to 9x)?

What do you mean going... :P

It did but seems to be going back.
It's currently at 11 but it was higher before I deleted some spam, so I think it goes back to 16 as new posts come in.
