Title: Kinko's can eat a fat hairy one!!!!
Post by: Phillyman on February 15, 2009, 12:07:57 AM
I hand the girl a CD with 43 GBA images on it and ask for it to be printed out on 8x14 and in landscape mode....the $0.59 ones....

Girl - Just so you know, we charge a $0.50 opening fee for multiple files, I wont charge you this time though
Me - Really, cant you just highlight all the files and right click and print?
Girl = Yea I am about to do that
Me - Oh thanks for letting me know
Me - How about if I submit them online?
Girl - I still need to open the files and charge you
Me - How about if I throw all the files into a PDF file?
Girl - That would work.
Me - "Thinking" ......I am soo never coming back here!

Wow so your gonna charge me $0.59 to print it out, and another $0.50 to open a file.....THAT YOU DON'T NEED TO OPEN TO PRINT!!!!!! Needless to say I will not be visiting Kinko's to get my N64, SNES and Genesis covers printed out. I will just use the color laserjet at work  ::)

Here they are though  8)

I think he means "Frakked"  ;D

Good to see you got some benefit out of finding our site Phillyman. They look good apart from the above mentioned Final Fantasy  cover.

As far as printing covers is concerned I just printed mine of my colour laser [Canon LBP-5000] using standard paper and they looked just fine. I'd love to print them on glossy stock but that requires inkjet printing ... read expensive ... & we have the same issues with print houses not wanting to print copyrighted items over here so I think you just got lucky with that girl & it may not happen again.

BTW ... Was she blond? Oooeerrr .... that was stereo-typing and a very un-PC comment wasn't it. Consider me wrist slapped already :P

And who ISN'T a BSG fan might be more appropriate? Real bummer that it's the final season though. I don't think Caprica is going to reach the heights of this series somehow. Love to be proved wrong of course.  :)

I personally think Sci-fi was going through a bit of a renaissance period with BSG, the likes of which really had been lost after Firefly was cancelled. Prior to that Babylon 5 was the only other series with a decent story-arc. Now all the good ones are finished/finishing & TV execs seem to think we all just want more reality TV or Desperate Housewives ripoff's. Sci-fi may be pushed back into the wilderness again if Caprica doesn't do well in the first 5 episodes. Gonna be interesting to see how it plays out .....

I am not sure what happened to it, it was kinda hard figuring out where to cut on a white cover, I may need to reprint that one, also somehow my Wario 4 cover and Rayman advance covers came out very tiny.....so I have 3 covers to reprint. No she wasnt blonde.....she was black. But I really dont understand why she would need to open the files. Anyways I will just buy some legal paper and print the rest at work :)

As someone who works in TV, I can tell you that the direction away form dramas and sci-fi is not necessarily because networks think that people wana see more reality. Its because they are cheap and times are hard. Reality is a lot less expensive to produce and execs see that people are "contempt" with it.

BTW.. what happened to Firefly was a travesty!

Shouldn't that have read "Content" with it?
Mind you .... the word "Contempt" certainly fits with my personal view of reality TV & chick drama's .... LOL

As for Firefly .... yep .... they screwed a great series indeed. And it resulted in the movie Serenity which was somewhat of a disappointment for me as the crew relationships in Firefly was what lifted the series from standard fare to "unmissable TV" The movie glossed over those completely as Whedon attempted to finish the Reaver/River Tam arc's in just 2 short hours. Sad ending to a great series as far as I am concerned!!

Back to the printing comments ..... I had a couple print incorrectly so ended up importing the pic into a MS Word doc then sized it to the physical dimensions I measured from another correctly sized print. Never had an issue after that as I saved it as a template & just imported the next pic into the doc and made sure it was dimensioned the same. That way the odd file with incorrect DPI etc didn't result in a smaller or oversized printout.

is it $0.50 per image? Either way it's total crap. That's as far as they can charge you for "labor" costs at a printing store :P

That's really funny an opening file fee, they must be hurting.  I wonder what they'll do next, a handing it to you fee, a I have to use the register to ring you up fee, wait until you go to an airport, then you'll see some pretty funny fees =)
