Title: Get Free DS Cases!
Post by: Kayvin on February 07, 2009, 08:54:18 PM
I was at my local GameStop today, and found used DS games were strangely absent from the shelf.

I located them over by the GameBoy cartridges, seperated from their cases!  I have a little bit of obsessive compulsive, so all my games are in their cases, alphabetized, etc.

So I asked why they did it.  No room apparently.

I asked them what they do with the cases.  They said that while some places keep em, that particular GameStop just chucks em.

I was short two cases at home, and bought a game that day.  The sales person was willing to go back and get me three DS cases.

Saved me having to order a couple from Nintendo.

Just thought some of you might wanna know that if you need a empty DS case, your local GameStop may be throwing them in the trash.

My local Gamestop says they are always in short supply. I asked them about cases a while back.
Guess it depends on the store

It does depend on the store and who is working. Officially they are not supposed to give any cases away but some people still do. FYI make sure to get the official nintendo cases, Gamestop makes their own with very poor quality plastic, watch out for that.

i used to work gamestop and id happily give people game cases if they were buying something, best time to ask would be right after reserveing games (which is one of the clerks and managers  sales goals) . but every person is different  so it may not work on some people.

If only their cases were the actual Nintendo ones, and not cheap knock-offs.

You can tell the difference when holding them - it just feels wrong.

I am speaking of the cases someone brings in with a used game.  The original cases that game had when they were purchased.  My GameStop now chucks *those*.

Oh you mean when someone brings in a used game with case, the company keeps the cartridge but tosses the case & manual?

Yeah that happens with the GBA games. However, you won't find it frequently accepted to chuck the DS cases due to the actual wall reserved for used DS games.

Actually, GameStops with small store space (like 500 sq. ft. and less) and stores that have frequent shoplifting cases are now throwing the used DS cases and manuals away and storing used DS games along with the used GBA games behind the counter. The small stores do not have the shelf space to display used DS games. Also, more than half of the used DS games seem like they do not have their original case, cover, and manual. Still, I wish they would keep the games that do have their original cases and manuals :/

That is one of the reasons I like Half.com and eBay for used games.  If you don't mind just the game, its in the "acceptable" category or "good" (usually cheaper too, but not always)

I didn't say that every Gamestop doesn't do that. I merely said that it isn't frequently accepted. I understand stores with small shelf space, I've worked in over 8 of them. I was just implying that it is typically manager discretion.
