Title: ***COMPLETE***TDIRunner's Request Thread
Post by: TDIRunner on June 05, 2014, 11:14:52 PM
So I’ve noticed that the general consensus for requests is to make one big list so that you don’t have to spam the request forum over and over.  I’ve checked the forums multiple times, but I haven’t been able to find any of these below.  Any help would be appreciated.  I’ll try not to bump this too often.

I'm looking for North American versions of all covers below:

All requests complete........ for now.

Here is Spider-Man/X-Men

I may have some of the others, but I need to dig.  I will post more if I have anything.

There is also a site that has some decent scans at 300 dpi.  I know they aren't ready covers, but someone may be able to do something with them.

Here is the site:
http://www.nintandbox.net/index.php/en/

Here are some examples of boxes:

I wish the game played as great as the cover looks. ;)

I now have covers for all of my DS games. ;D  Plus, it sounds like I received my Shadowfox cases today as well.  I think I will be printing a bunch of covers this weekend.

could do with a decent scan for the front - but at least stops it being naked.

Thanks Sheep.  It's even in the style I prefer (which I'm sure you know plenty about since you converted most of my 2600 covers for me). ;D

Oh, and this game is well worth playing.  It's actually a lot of fun as long as you have a second person handy.

We had Outlaw here as well.  I have both games and they play the same.  In fact before today, I was keeping them in the same case, but now I can properly case each one.

I don't know if it would help or not, but I have some scans and images of some of the PSP covers I'm looking for.  I found these online, so they are not my scans, and therefore, I cannot improve on them.  If they are too crappy to use for covers I understand.

Mel,

Thanks for updating the Arcade's Revenge cover. :D

I was just curious if you thought the raw scans for Conflict Desert Storm (GameCube) and Trevor McFur (Jaguar) were enough to makes covers for.  Neither scan is mine, but I have links to them in my Raw Scans thread (link in signature).  Those are the only two games on my request list that I have scans for.  I'm still looking for scans of everything else.

Thanks.

What paper are you using TDIRunner?

This is my original post when I first bought the paper.  I ordered from Red River.  I THINK it's the same stuff that Stone Age Gamer uses.

Some of you might want to hit me for waiting this long, but I finally bought some good quality paper.  The difference really is amazing.  I'll probably replace all of my covers eventually, but I'm not in a big rush.  I'm mostly concerned with using the better quality stuff going forward.

The difference in person is about a thousand times better than what the pictures are showing (and I think the pictures show a lot).

Yes, I received one on October 8th about the games.

I also sent you one about the Odyssey2 covers.  I was wondering if you still had the template for the custom spine Odyssey2 cover.  I was thinking about trying to get familiar with Photoshop by trying to convert the retail Odyssey2 covers over to the custom ones.

Awesome. :o

I've been meaning to case that for some time now.

I don't know if you are familiar with that or not, but it's a third party memory card for the PS2.  Since it has multiple pages of save files, you are REQUIRED to use the start up disc everytime you turn on the PS2.  Pain in the butt.  I never would have  bought it, but it was given to me as a gift a long, long time ago.  Anyway, it is nice to fit it in a PS2 case since those could hold both a disc and memory card.  I had to alter the memory card slightly because the card is slightly longer than a PS2 card.  No big deal.

Thanks again.

Same exact story for me with the Mega Memory Card for PS1 I was talking about yesterday.  Like I said earlier, the ONLY reason I had this third party PS2 memory card was because it was given to me when I first got my PS2 and I had to make due until I was able buy a proper memory card.

Some of my Game Boy covers requests have been outstanding for quite a while.  In fact, I think I've been looking for them for about a year now.  They aren't big name games and, therefore, no one seems to have scans of them.  I've actualy started looking for the boxes on eBay.  If I can find them cheap, I have no problem spending a little money to get the boxes to scan them. ;D  But since they aren't common or popular games, the boxes aren't that easy to find.

@Sheep,

Did you get a chance to find the Odyssey2 templates?  I've started messing around with Photoshop and I converted the only Atari 2600 covers I had that weren't in the silver format.

Here's an example.  I converted this:
(https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/6fca/rjhiigzevsmbbqo4g.jpg) (http://www.mediafire.com/view/rjhiigzevsmbbqo/Donkey_Kong_Jr..png)

into this:
(https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/1639/vc1p5wzp1dt4g5e4g.jpg) (http://www.mediafire.com/view/vc1p5wzp1dt4g5e/Donkey_Kong_Jr..jpg)

Still needs some work.  It could use a better picture on the front and actual in game footage on the back as most of the other covers have, but it's a start.  I doubt that I will ever be converting raws into good looking covers, but I'm hoping that I can take already created covers and convert them into styles that are consistent with my collection.  I've also converted all of my Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance covers into the silver logo style which I preferred but which doesn't seem to be that common.

In the mean time, it probably wouldn't hurt to get some more practice.

Quick question.  It looks like when I save something as a jpeg, I loose the ability for Photoshop to recognize the layers.  Is it possible to go back, or do I need to save it as a photoshop file until I know for sure I'm done editing it?

Impossible to convert a JPEG to layers.  JPEG is the flattened image.  Save everything as a PSD, and final image as jpg.

Funny story.  My computer doesn't provide a preview of my PSD files when in Windows Explorer.  So I converted those files over into JPEGs so that I could see the preview (derp).  I noticed afterwards, that the layers were gone....... :-[  But luckily, I back up my hard drive every night, so I just went back to the previous day's backup and retrieved the PSD files.

Won't let that happen again. ;)

I added Driver 2 to my request list.  It's weird.  I have the Greatest Hits case, but the discs inside are for the original version.  I might try to just convert the GH version over, but I would prefer to see if someone has the original version to scan because there are sometimes differences other than the green GH banner.

TDIRunner, Are you looking for any PC engine covers?

Yes, but I haven't requested them yet because I haven't decided how to store them.  There's the obvious method of using CD jewel cases.  But I might also use DVD cases since there seem to be more of those types of covers.  Sheep even gave me the idea for DS cases.  I don't want anyone spending time making covers until I figure it out.

Thanks for asking though. ;D

And I'll get you Kirby's Pinball Land label scan tonight. ;)

Well, if I was doing it, I would completely redo the back - not a fan of the mixed styles - but it is good that your having a go with photoshop.  That's where i started a few years ago.

Also - try not to use the magic wand for removing backgrounds for the spine logo's - it leaves a horrible edge on it.  For simpler logos, I would cut it out (look at segamers tutorial - as it covers it perfectly) or for something like this one, I try and get as close a match as possible to the fonts, and just rebuild it (which i believe i did for the original version of this cover).  Ends up nice and crisp.

Thanks for the tips.  I'll check out Segamer's video.  Using the magic wand for that was a pain the butt anyway.  The weird part was that it didn't look too bad on my screen, so I printed it out and imediately noticed what your talking about.  Now that I've tried converting a few covers over to different formats, I really want to upgrade to a bigger monitor.  My 19" is not cutting it.

And thanks for MKII.  Looks great. ;D

Lol - well if you look at some of my early game gear covers - which somehow managed to get on the site - your effort is MUCH better!  So don't get disheartened.

Photoshop is actually pretty intuitive once you get used to it.  And there are a hell of a lot of features I still dont know how to use.  Unfortunately, all the ones i learnt early on where not the ones i needed for making decent covers.  ::)

I'm not sure you can tell by looking at the disc, I have about 15 PS1 games that are GH and none indicate on the disc itself that it is.
Ridge Racer 600 dpi raws. If you need me to crop them and reupload let me know, I just didn't feel like opening PhotoShop right now.

In my experience, Greatest Hits discs are always a different color than the regular black label discs.  GH discs are normally black and chrome, or black and silver compared to the standard discs which usually have some type of color.  It's possible there might be some exceptions.  However, I have multiple games in both the GH and black label and they are all easily identifiable from the disc.

I can confirm that this applies to the following games:
  Gran Turismo
  Metal Gear Solid
  Driver 2
  Resident Evil Director's Cut
  Final Fantasy VII

Thanks for the scans. ;D

The only one I've see was the one on this site.  I haven't looked at it very closely, so I'm not sure which parts need updating.

logos are pretty low quality, and colour mismatching between front and spine.  It's fine, just not in keeping with the sites current quality standards.  I've started a new one.  Will preview it here before i do any covers.

Well, here's the start
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/sheep2001/lynxtemp_zps78487190.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/sheep2001/media/lynxtemp_zps78487190.jpg.html)

i'm not happy with the back - as the orientation of the original is portrait, rather than landscape, i've made the rear area wider.  Would people prefer a continuation of the front/spine silver grey to create a bar on the back, to make the rear orientation work like the original, or stretched like this?
Title: Re: TDIRunner's Request Thread

Actually - with the front done, i think it looks pretty sharp

Played with the idea of a banner on the front (like the game boy template), but it just didnt look right.  Tried it having removed the black surround, and centered the image, and i really like it.  What say you?

I like that. Im not as picky about them individually as much as I am about being able to case them all the same style (the covers on the site have 2-3 different templates between them)
I would be happy with anything as long as they all looked the same.
Title: Re: TDIRunner's Request Thread

I like that a lot. :o

I like the improved spine.  It looks like it's zoomed out a little which is a good thing.  The color also seems more accurate to the original, but that's a little hard to tell without printing.  I also like the continuation of the spine onto the front.  Overall, I like it a lot.

Thanks for your work on this. ;D

Over the next couple of days, I might not respond to anything here right away because it's the Thanksgiving holiday over here and I'm with family.  Plus tomorrow is our annual Day After Thanksgiving ATV mud ride. ;)  Pictures to come. 8)

Crazy busy holiday weekend, but it was fun. ;D

Finally got around to printing these out.  They look awesome. :o  The color looks great and I really like the spine.  My only complaint would be that it's difficult to cut them out since the back is mostly white.  Only one cut is difficult (obviously the far left cut).  I used an already printed out cover to get it right.

Thanks again for you work.

Out of interest,  how do the retail boxes compare in size to game gear boxes?
Title: Re: TDIRunner's Request Thread
Post by: TDIRunner on December 02, 2014, 12:59:54 PM
Awesome.  These look great as well. ;D

I would pick one up if you find it for a good price.  I think it's a great system.  The color, backlit screen looks great and the system fits comfortably in my hands.  It's unfortunate that the library of games isn't quite up to par with Game Boy or even Game Gear because it's a pretty powerful system.  I don't think the battery life is that great, but I'm not sure because I only play it with an A/C adapter plugged in.

The boxes are very similar to Game Gear boxes except they are a little shorter.  I am currently storing them in the same clear box protectors that I store my Game Gear boxes in.  There is just a lot of empty space above the box.  I'll still try to get those pictures posted tonight.  I've been having computer issues at home.

Reason for the question was that maybe it would be an option for Shadowfox to do a dual case game gear/Lynx.  I really like my cases to be the same size as originals if at all possible.

The Lynx cvers are looking pretty nice.   Heres the last one on your list  (although I have a feeling youve got another list of conversions - lol)
Chips Challenge
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/sheep2001/LYNXchipschallenge_zps87368bd1.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/sheep2001/media/LYNXchipschallenge_zps87368bd1.jpg.html)

Its a shame the GG box protectors are so loose on the top edge (for the hang tab) - and they discontinued the proper protectors fro Lynx - otherwise I would have just gone for printing repro boxes, and put them in the protectors.  Just have to hope Shadowfox at least comes up with the GG cases.

How does a real Lynx box look next to one of my covers in a gb box?

Did they give you any type of tracking or did you have the same problem that I did?
Title: Re: TDIRunner's Request Thread
Post by: sheep2001 on December 04, 2014, 11:38:03 AM
Tracking more than doubled the cost of sending it, so I took a chance without.

Worst case - i have more copies of most of what i sent (although maybe not in as good condition) so I COULD make up another box - obviously i'd rather not!  I guess I only sent it Nov 21, so no need to panic just yet.

No worries.  I woulnd't have paid extra for it either.  I'm not too woried about it just yet.  I wasn't expecting it overnight or anything..... :P

It will be a nice surprise when it arrives.  With the cost of replacing our furnace (which I didn't expect to relace for a few more years), I've decided to cut down on game spending for a while.  This package along with my wifes Christmas gift to me (Turbo Everdrive) will be nice additions since I won't have much else new for a while.

The good news is that it gives me a chance to get caught up on all of my covers.  I still need to put the custom spine on the Odyssey2 covers (which I can handle).  I also need to make modified UGCs for my Atari 5200 games.  Fortunately every game I have already has a cover on the site.  They are not quite the style I'm looking for, but the change is minor enough that I can handle it myself.  I also need to get back to modifiying all of my Genesis covers to match the style I prefer.

I also have 6 Fairchild Channel F games that I would like to cased up.  Obviously there aren't too many covers on this site for that system (none that I know of), but at least I have the box for each of my games so I can get them scanned.  They also require modification to fit in UGCs... :-\

So much work to to, but who am I kidding? I would be bored if it was all finished now.

I just checked and I just now realized that some of the games are FM sound compatible.  I didn't think to try that last night.  Do you have that mod on your SMS?  If not, I would recomend it.

Also, I've started to put the extra Sonic games out on my local facebook retro gamer page to see if I can find any buyers.

I did it myself.  It's as easy as mods get.  It would be a good mod for someone who hasn't used a soldering iron before.  I don't know what you skill level is for soldering, but I would recomend getting it especially if you are a big Master System fan.

The bad news is it's not cheap.  But I'm still glad I did it.  It plugs into the expansion port on the back, but it doesn't require punching out the plastic cover on the back.  In fact, you don't have to modify the exterior if you don't want to.  I only made a small hole for the switch on the back.  But if you don't want to drill holes on the case, you can run the wiring through the vent holes on the back.  I just like the clean look of the switch.

After much though, I've decided to put my PC Engine games into DVD cases.  I like Lumberjack's template below for both the Hu Card games and his similar template for CD games.  I've found two of my games in this format and I've already downloaded them.  I'm looking for covers for the rest of my collection or at the very least scans for the games.

I'll scan the covers for the few games I have that include covers.

I just picked up Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games for the DS.  So Far I cannot find a cover on the site for it.  I've only been able to find the cover for the Winter Olympics version.  This one is Summer Olympics even though it isn't in the title.

Thanks.

Thanks Mel   ;D

I am still need to fix a few things on the cover. I am sort of thinking that the skin colour looks a bit too red/pink.

I'm trying to knock out some of the PC Engine games myself.  I'll post them here for now.  Nothing great, but I think they will work for me.

I also put a cover for my Genesis Arcade Classics cart.  It's not great, but it's something.  It would be nice if anyone could provide a good quality scan.  Everything I used came from art I found on Google.

Awesome!!!  Thank you!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Haven't been on this thread in a while. :o

I have a lot of covers to print out.  I was doing really well for a while, but now I'm behind again.  The reason I haven't been printing so much is because I've actually been playing video games.  :o  It takes up a lot of time, but it's so much fun.  ;)

Sorry, I don't understand.  PLAYING video games?  You mean you can play them?  I tend to make them look pretty and put them in piles that need to be moved around the room.  Seems I'm missing something! ;D

I am stumped too. You mean i can actually actively interact with my piles of nostalgic goodness?
