Title: Online Game Collection Catalog???
Post by: SonicAdvDX on November 03, 2013, 12:58:39 AM
Hey guys, I've seen some people on forums in the past doing something like this, and recently got intrigued and would like to do the same...

Do you guys know of any good websites for making a comprehensive online catalog of all the titles in your video game collection? I've been doing some searching on Google and can't seem to find any decent solutions (that are also free). Basically, I'm looking to do something like this site could provide: http://connect.collectorz.com/games/  It's got boxart, console categories, a separate wish list page, the works! Buuuuut, it's $25 a year. Not terrible, but I could have sworn I've seen sites that do this type of thing for free!

Any ideas?

Well i am in two right now, have them both in my Sign.

One is RF Generation, has a very large catalog of games, consoles, controllers, ever made for each consoles. What i don't like is that the % of games that they calculate is based in the total of game that you owned of all consoles, they do not have an idividual % of games per consoles.

The other ir Retro collect, after some discution and explanetion i regret of something that i wrote on my profile on that page, they have all european games and are adding recently North american games. What i like of this page is that the % of games own is calculated by consoles individualy and calculate the missing games you have in base of the games you own even it tells you how many games are left to complete your collection. You can set the page to only calculate only North american games, european or world wide, so the calculation would be exact as you whant it. As i only collect north american games it only calculate my owned / missing North american games and don't count other regions, i set it that way :D
What i don't like is that they are still adding North american consoles/games, so, for me they only have Nes, and Snes games, i had to add the games that i owned of PS1, Wii, N64 as european games, only the ones that exist on that regions even though they are north american, i have others that are only North american games that i coldn't add them.

So my complete list of games are on RF generation but i prefer Retro collect. Hope that retro collect keeps adding north american games and consoles as they told me, because is an excellent option

I also use RFGen and RetroCollect, but you can also try out VGCollect.com and Backloggery. RFGen unfortunately has a pretty clunky user interface, RetroCollect has mostly European titles and no PC game category, VGCollect has some bugs (but it has a feature which the other three don't have - you can specify how much you've bought the game for), and Backloggery is used mostly in tracking your progress in games (not collecting).

backloggery really only exists to catalog your progress in playing your games and there's no preset entries for any of them so you add them yourself specifically for your own library. you're even free to make it all up if you want to. but all i wanted was an online list and i don't go for complete platform collections anyway.

EDIT: altho now i'm registered to rf generation as well because databases are fun.

I use Backloggery. I tried VGCollect a while ago and forgot about it. I just tried logging in and its slow as hell. The RetroCollect is no good for North American games, especially newer ones.

I would love to use the CollectorZ one, but the $30 price tag is holding me up.

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions guys!

I had heard of most of these before from Google. Backloggery seems pretty cool from an achievement-hunter standpoint, I'll probably put one of those together just for fun. So far, RF Generation seems to be the highest-quality database described so far. (Which is good, because I initially wrote it off.) The site doesn't have much visual appeal, without things like boxart integration, but it's the best from a purely sorting/cataloging standpoint.

CollectorZ still looks like the absolute best option, unfortunately. Maybe one day I'll bite the bullet and pay that subscription fee...

But not today.

Daaaaaaaaamn, yep, just as I thought, Collectorz is TOTALLY the premiere cataloging site. I hadn't seen an actual collection from their webzone before, but that one looks PERFECT! All the sorting tools and break downs you could possibly ask for. (You haven't made a wish list!? ;D )

Thanks for the example bro, that definitely convinced me. One day, I'll join that site for sure.
