Title: Octoberber 2013 pickups - C is closing fast!!!
Post by: Arseen on September 30, 2013, 04:14:43 PM
As of posting this only 2009 hours before Christmas presents. :D

Gotta start buying stuff soon.

And Santa Claus lives in Northern Finland not North Pole.
Inside Northern Polar Circle yes, but not North Pole itself. :P

just got my ouya in the mail. they fucked everything up and then lost my order so now i finally got one like 5 months later than what was promised. and it's not even the backer's version with the top contributor's names etched in but the standard retail ver. but they threw in a second controller so i'm sorta fine with that. now i'm picking out what roms to put on it.

All of them.

Do you know if the roms can be held on network storage, or do they have to be local to the ouya?

Got a few things today....

The Vita I got last week, so it's technically a September pick up, but whatever.

Got it used for $120, with a 4GB card inside. The handle attachment I got separately for about $10, which also changes the shoulder buttons into more typical triggers. It's a bit less portable, but much more comfortable.

The Genesis games I got today. Tiny Toons - Buster's Hidden Treasure loose for $3 and Quackshot complete for $8.

I also got a nice package in the mail today...

Following my post in last month's pickup thread (http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=12983.msg117927#msg117927) where I got (among many other things) an incomplete copy of Lunar 2 with only the case, game discs, and making-of disc, the very generous Mick Dundee (http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=902) decided to send me almost all the rest of the bits for free! ;D That is: The box, the 120 page hardcover manual, the soundtrack, the omake box with the map... Even another case (in better shape than what I've got) with Disc 3 and the making of disc. The only bits I'm missing now are the pendant and the cardboard standees.

Got these amoung other dreamcast games throughout the month of Sept but just got a chance to snap a couple pics today.

All were Ebay auctions that I won.  Grandia 2 and Shenmue were from a single auction but the reason it caught my attention was that Shenmue was the LE with the soundtrack included.

Skies of Arcadia I already have for the gc and to be honest seeing what other auctions were going at I didn't expect to win with the max bid I put in.  But I won and now my only dilemma is which version do I want to play lol

This game was one that I never thought I'd see myself buying for the price that it was.  But I couldn't help but fall in love with it once I played it on an emu.  So before prices get any higher I figured it'd be better to get it now then later.

Picked up this NES lot for $30 on Craigslist. The guy said he was selling it so cheap because the system was broken (flashing blue screen). I think that all it needs is a good cleaning and maybe a new pin connector, no big deal. I plan to get it up and running and resell it with the games I already own from the lot.

Hey everyone,

what do you reckon that all of this is worth?

Trying to decide whether to buy or not.

It's worth probably +200 dollars. But being the cheap ass that I am, I'd make a low ball offer of $100-125.

Im not too good at this...I dont know a lot of the values. But id say its worth upwards of $200 probably even closer if not more than $300 assuming everything is in working good shape

Cheers guys :) I'm in Australia so things are naturally more expensive, the average price for that Conkers on eBay is 200+, the cart itself goes for 130-180. And a n64 goes for about 80. If I can pick it up for 200 I'd be stoked :) Just wanted a second opinion.

Kinda justifying my money spending haha.

Edit: Someone offered 450 and the guy wants over 600. I'm out :(

Went to my local game store and they were having a buy 2 get 1 free. I had already paid for my games and one of the employees was looking through a box for the Outrun cart. He was pulling carts out and I saw the JBD Knockout Boxing cart. Best of all they only wanted a dollar!

Bought this in September but it showed up today so whatever! Batch 3 of MVS carts showed up today! (Batch 2 has been delayed...)

Decided to cut the bullshit and just picked up the whole set at once rather than one at a time seeing as how I would want them all eventually anyway.

Some stuff to kick off October!

Shadow Warriors (PAL A) and Ski or Die (PAL B SCN) both CIB ~20 and 15 $ respectively.

And here we have some carts that have taken a beating... both were quite cheap considering the SCN versions on Darkwing Duck (yes, that's the game) and GMC '92 go for way more than what I paid. I don't really mind as long as the games work, but I will look into printing a new label for DWD... too bad there's not one on this site.

I wonder what has eaten GMC, though. It has a sticker indicating it was used as a rental so who knows how many people have sank their teeth into it!

A label for DWD would be great, thanks.

I've seen those things on clearance at Target for like 8 bucks :/

• The wonderswans came with a large lot for the business, but I don't do anything with B&W Swans, so they're going in the collection.

• Red Target GBA has been on my want list for a while and I just picked up a few for the business, so I thought I'd just keep one for myself.

• Midnight GBA actually belonged to a long time customer, but he saw something on the site (GBA-wise) recently that he wanted more, so I got this back as a trade.  It's a Japan-only TrU exclusive color.

Ya, I got my Link's Crossbow Training zapper for $4 at a garage sale, it was in the box but didn't have the game. It did however have a white nunchuck in it.
I then found a decent copy of Link's Crossbow Training at a pawnshop for $2. $6 for a now CIB LCT and a nunchuck was a great deal lol.

regarding the Wii Zapper, I am happy for everyone that has low-cost purchases but I do not like buying certain things that are used. I do not want to play with a dirty zapper. former owner could've scratched his bum, picked his nose, then played with the zapper. yik. LOL I like to buy things new and unopened. I will buy books/magazines like strategy guides because i do not need to touch them very often. anyway, all new at discounted prices. I agree that zapper should be cheaper but $20 is not much.

i now have 11 games for my Wii U  :)

Just picked up my pre-order of the Ltd. edition of Windwaker HD

Glad I pre-ordered because ebay auctions for this one are pretty expensive right now.

Also you've got A-holes like this guy in my city who buy up all the copies and attempt to gouge.

I also got the LE of Wind Waker at Gamestop, funny thing is I had to wait for a while at the store as another customer was basically trying to bribe the employee for the only LE copy of WW, which was my copy. I loved ruining her hopes of getting the statue once she saw the employee ringing it up for me.  ;D

I also picked up Pilotwings Resort, Killzone 3, Enslaved: OttW, and L.A. Noire for $4.50 each with Gamestop's Buy 2 for $10 deal. Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper was got for $15new at Bestbuy.

Also preordered Dark Souls 2 CE (Only game I am looking forward to in the future other than MGS V.)

I've come to proclaim my jealousy!

Wiggy - I'll be forever envious of your awesome dedication to collecting Nintendo handhelds! I'm currently on the hunt for a reasonable priced, near new boxed Graphite AGS-101.

taigr81m - I'm happy to see another person who owns more than three Wii U games! My library is also up to 11 now, and includes ACIII, Batman: AC, COD:BlOps II, Darksiders II, Lego City, Need for Speed: MW, Mario Bros. U, Luigi U, Nintendoland, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101.

MaSHoe and mojoeskateco - I've gotta say, I do like the look of that WW LE, specifically the box itself. Quite cool. Didn't bother to preorder one myself though, as it would have required actually going into a GameStop. And to hell with those hoarders/gougers. They can suck it!

Picked up my collectors edition today as well. Lucked out too. When I pre ordered my copy shortly after it was available, they said there was nothing in their systems of a collectors edition. Then when I found out they actually had a collectors edition available, the pre orders were filled! Fuck. Anyway, they ended up having some extra copies for whatever reason so I was able to get one for myself, and grabbed one for my girlfriend as a Christmas gift. Told her I the one I got for myself was the last one... ;)

Nice collection  :) I like the Wii U system, especially the GamePad. I hope that they make more games this year. I do not have Mario Bros U yet, although I do have Luigi U. I am disappointed that the Luigi U has a time limit. damnit! I hate time limit games. I am still happy o have it in my collection.

by the way, I have not purchased a new system since N64 and PS2. The Wii U is now my newest console. I have not played ANY of the Pikmin games. I am wondering what they could be compared with? Pikmin looks interesting.

@Arseen
I have the bottom of the cover cleaned. I just finished removing the text today. I still have to restore the top-left of the cover to finish removing the Nipponese text/logo.

I sadly only have Star Soldier and now Adventure Island as I don't wanna pay ebay prices. Got those both from a forum I frequent (someone there was selling his whole collection and gave me nice prices as I bought big packages from him and several times too) for around 15 euros a piece.

Actually I haven't played them up to now though.

Finding boxed GBA systems has become quite the chore anymore. So many were owned by children, who of course don't take care of their belongings very well, much less the packaging (unless you were a totally obsessive child like myself, who kept EVERY box from every game I ever bought).  My portables area on my shelves has become pretty much full. In fact, the whole shelving unit has become rather full. Gonna have to rearrange soon...

I'm just missing the pendant. They don't show up by themselves very often. -_-

Picked up two major purchases:

My Preordered Windwaker Limited Edition (which will never be opened, since I have the download version on my Zelda Wii U)  Was $40 after a trade in of a duplicate game

(http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/941f/p4b6lcfdq4y7rwj4g.jpg) (http://www.mediafire.com/view/p4b6lcfdq4y7rwj/IMG_1467.JPG)

And I've been itching for some console Diablo action.  Diablo 3 was $50 and Diablo w/ guide was also $50.

I also had a major score at my local thrift shop.  I will post pics later.

Victorious Boxers 2: Fighting Spirit (PS2), cheap-looking Ippo boxing game. brother's a fan of the manga and it was basically free at EB
Metal Gear Solid / Ghost Babel (GBC) Non-canon, but it looks like a sequel to Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness (PS3) Disgaea is a huge timesink so I skipped #4, but now that we're finally back with characters that started the series off I'm interested again. And technologically, the series just get better with every new entry since they keep piling features on to make grinding more fun.

Yeah, for sure. I've just been so backed up with everything between the business and having an infant. And now that we've moved the business offsite, we'll be able to take on more projects, which of course means less time for other stuff. I've still got like 20 PMs here that need answering. More MVS stuff!

(http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p191/BaddyChaddy/mvscb_zps6978de07.jpg) (http://s128.photobucket.com/user/BaddyChaddy/media/mvscb_zps6978de07.jpg.html)

Batch #2 finally made it in. That's 5 more games (Crossed Swords, Aggressors of Dark Kombat, Shock Troopers 2nd Squad, Kizuna Encounter, Ninja Masters) to the collection bringing my total to 18. One more on the way. These are missing their original labels, but it wasn't a big deal to me given how simple these are to reproduce, and I got to save a few bucks. Also picked up 30 reproduction MVS carton boxes to put my carts in. Have a bunch of scans for the inserts, marquees and dip sheets for most of the games I have, that I'm going to clean up reprint and slap inside to complete these bad boys. Even if it is reprints!

That brings me to a question I'm hoping someone here might be able to answer for me. Anyone happen to know the exact dimensions of the art inserts and dip sheets so I can print these at the correct size? Maybe someone who possible owns a complete MVS game and could measure them and let me know? Would be really appreciated!

I've bought from Gamefly a few times and they do come complete and the case and manual are always mint since they just store them until they are sold. The games have always worked so I would say go ahead and buy from them, you won't be disappointed.

Case and manual have always been flawless when I order from them.  Even have all of the codes that would originally come with the game.  I also received a soundtrack cd from a game that had it bundled with the first print run of the game lol.

And really if you get a disc that isn't in such great shape...put the game on your queue and when it gets shipped out see the condition and just mail back the worst looking one.

Honeybee is a PAL > NTSC converter, I used to have one, I'd assume the other one does the same.

Just ordered these

I finally have everything to play the game.

I was actually only missing the claws and the red, green, blue and white pieces, so I have now extra yellow (and bit roughed up blue) piece and spare set of trays.

Awesome.

R.O.B. was my favorite Brawl character, they're incredibly hard to find here, sadly. And when you find one they're stupidly expensive.

Yeah I got mine in Action Set (or something similarly named) few years back.
It came with console + Duck Hunt + Gray Zapper + Gyromite + R.O.B + spinner+ spinners + nesessary leads.

Got these yesterday. Each PSP had an issue with it.

1) Power Input had a broken prong. No battery or battery door.
2) Unspecified issue with the UMD Tray. No memory stick.
3) Originally thought to be an issue with the screen. However, a new screen was put in, and it still doesn't operate correctly.

The third one, the PSP Slim, I got with the old screen, but none of them came with a charger or game, so I cannot test them to see what exactly is the issue wth 2 or 3. I did replace the power input from the first one with the power input with the second, as well as the battery and door. So now the first one should work without any problems (though I can't test it).

This is the first time I've ever tried my hands on repairing a handheld, or a video game machine of any kind. I'm eager to see if what I did for the first one worked. And once I am able to more accurately diagnose the issues with the other two, maybe you guys can help me fix them?

Not the easiest portable to repair, but totally doable.  Just be careful with the ribbon cables.  That seems to be the first issue that repair noobs run into.  They are easy to tear :-\

Wait, doesn't that effectively make it the US version of FF2? ???

I can confirm that the repair to the first PSP was a complete success! I now have a working PSP.

The Slim seems to have an issue with the display. The screen turns on, and the audio works, but the screen remains black. I know it's not the screen, because the screen was already replaced. I'll have to open it up and see if I notice anything unusual.

As for the other PSP Fat, it now has the charge issue (since I switched the power inputs), which is a simple fix as long as I can get the part. However, it doesn't seem to read UMDs at all. The disks don't even spin. It doesn't register the UMD, and I can only guess as to why for now.

I had a similar problem with my PSP slim, every now and again the game would stop, there was a little switch on the inside of the UMD reader which detects if a disc is in or not, I just pushed it in and glued it in place, games work every time now!
Only problem now is it always thinks you have a game in, not sure how that'll affect the laser or anything in the long run...

Lost Vikings from a local video game store for 4 €, after I took in some surplus games for exchange

Castlevania and Darkwing Duck I had previously but I printed new label / etiquette for them. DWD label thanks to Arseen, it came out really well  ;D New Generation etiquette was just torn otherwise.

Model 1 Console with Hookups
1 3-button Controller
1 3 Button Arcade Stick
1 6 Button Arcade Stick

Most of the games are compete:

Sonic 1 (Not for Resale)
Altered Beast
Golden Axe
Streets of Rage
TMNT: Hyperstone Heist
Shadow Blasters
Spider Man / Xmen
NHL Hockey
Spiderman
Kid Khamelion
Thunderforce II

I don't have a Genesis and only had Sonic 2 before this so it's a pretty good starter collection

Wind Waker HD
Pokemon X
aaaaand a 32GB card for my Vita.

The Wind Waker and Pokemon were their standard prices, naturally.
The 32GB Vita card was only $45 thanks to a promotion Best Buy had going.
I haven't gotten around to it yet, but I'll probably trade in the 4GB card that was in my Vita when I bought for $5 credit toward something else.

One more to the pile bringing my total up to 19, and 20 is on the way...then I need to try and take a step back from this thing...lol

KOF 99 is my favorite out of the bunch so I had to pick it up. Clocked soooooo many hours into this game with my buddy on the Dreamcast when we were younger. Also printed out labels I rebuilt for the games I bought that were missing the originals. Doubled them up so I could stick one on the boxes and I gotta say these things turned out absolutely perfect! ;D

Eh, bought one of these for $30.  :( Shame these things are expensive, and the Beatles ones don't show up that often. Still, the orig drums were in a lot with the Bass for $35, so so far $65 still 'ant bad for the Beatles Rockband stuff. Still need a Bass adapter.

Went to some garage sales this morning. Folks were saying that some guy cleaned out all of their video game stuff at 5:45 in the morning. I had to laugh a bit. That's some dedication!

I only found 2 sales with games out of over 20 visited. First, picked up Mario Luigi Bowser's Inside Story on the DS for $2.

Next I found this Sega Dreamcast. I've never played Dreamcast and I probably won't keep this lot, but what really caught my attention was the condition. It was obviously adult owned.

He was asking $50. I didn't have my phone to check any values so I went with my gut on this one and picked up the lot for $37. It turns out that Street Fighter is a little valuable so it looks like I did alright.

The $37 would cover the controllers at the least.

I also have Street Fighter Alpha 3 in stock - disc only (in coverproject case)

I went to Goodwill:
N64, System Only with Jumper Pak and Lid.

And a great find:
(Not exact album, found a picture)
Elvis Debut Album, - $1
This seems to sell for $50-$100 on eBay. Mine is beat up, Top and Bottom sides are split, The far right was cut down (The word Record under the top corner box is cut down to "Reco") It's a clean cut, so it does not look ugly or anything.

Something new again. Some SCN boxes and instructions from a friend in exchange for a few games, and a few games to fill those boxes with. Coupla boxes in really great shape, few taken some hits along the way.

Having heard that Tommo/SNK deal is off, and no more Neo Geo X were going to be made - i took the plunge and grabbed the Neo Geo X gold, with a clicky stick, and the classics pack.

Haven't tried it on the TV yet, or upgraded the firmware, but i'm quite pleased with it so far.

I'm not sure if I trust the Finnish postal service enough to send you the manual. Where am I gonna get a new one if they lose it or tear it? All my packages come roughly manhandled and bruised, ALWAYS. But I'll look into scanning it. You did notice that Lolo 3 manual is missing the front and back covers?

And if you have surplus manuals for NES games I got, I'm interested.

Understandable.

Missing front aren't problem as they can be redone.

I'll checks my collection of manuals for doubles, but there aren't many.

Area 51 (Xbox) - €1.50
Kuri Kuri Mix (PS2) €2.00
Destroy All Humans (PS2) €2.00
Kessen (PS2) - €3.00
Wii Party (Wii) - €3.50

Kuri Kuri seemed like fun.
Wii Party has been on my wishlist for some time, picked it up pretty cheap too.

And lastly, not exactly a video game, but a game nevertheless:

Hey! don't knock us mom-and-pop retailers. We need to make a living. :)

BTW - $50 is a fair retail price for that game.

Sorry no picture :-\

picked up a grey/baige "heavy sixer" Los gatos ATARI logo USA 2600 power supply for $1.99 at a local  thrift.
Now where is that Heavy sixer! I hate how they sell all the systems, cables, and controllers separately in different parts of the store.

From what I've read they have a high dead rate and pose a fire hazard.  Still a nice piece and kinda desirable.

I have no problem with the guy making a living.

I actually really like the dude and if it weren't for him my collection would be a lot smaller.

I just checked ebay and there are a few BIN auctions for BOFIV which are in the low to mid $30's and add shipping and it would be $45 max for me to get a copy.  An auction would be even less so I respectfully disagree that $50 is a fair price.

I'd say $30-$35 would be fair and even at $40 I'd be willing to pay a small premium to support a local shop but he seems to be pricing things at 25-30% above BIN ebay price.

That said he did do me a favor by taking in a bunch of crappy PS2 games that he will have trouble selling which is why I'll keep going back.

I'm actually worried that his prices will scare the casual buyer away and he might have to close up shop which would suck royally.

I've got the same concern about a game shop in my area. Overpriced consoles and big-name items keep me away from the place although you can still find some stuff for good prices ($1.50 for Tomb Raider PS1, $8 for Mortal Kombat SNES). Plus the place doubles as an old-school arcade which is another reason I keep going back :p

Retailers aside though I got some decent pickups this month via trading.

I really miss that game! Clocked in sooo many hours into the multiplayer with a couple buddies I met up with that happen to be from Toronto (only a 4-5 hour drive from me). The first game that seriously got me interested multiplayer. We would consecutively smash kids together one after another on a daily basis until we would desert the multiplayer to the point where we couldn't even find players to play with. Then it got really dead, period. Wonder if anyone still plays...

Anyway, we've been tearing up GTA Online together lately! ;)

Went out to garage sales today, the two i went to I scored at both.

First went to one that listed they had video games and walked out with a nice Dreamcast lot for $20. System, 3 controllers, and 27 games . I was happy with what I paid, and I thought there was nothing really that special, just a few good games like House of the Dead 2, Crazy Taxi, Legacy of Kain, Slave Zero.

But, As I was doing a clean and a proper price check I noticed the Sonic Adventure is Limited Edition, and pretty pricy :) unfortunately it doesnt have the manual.

The next sale was a collector getting rid of some of his stuff. it was pretty picked through when I got there, But managed to grab these 4 games for $40. I needed Kirby and Ogre Battle for my collection, but Mario Party and Wipe Out will be for sale/ trade to recoup some money.

Seeing as October is ending soon, guess i'll post what i got this month... won't have picture this time around though, picture are back in november!! hehe!

I got 4 NES Manual and 1 game (all off ebay) the 4 manual are : Ice Hockey, IronSword, Mario/Duckhunt and Mario/Duckhunt/World Class Track Meet... 8$ shipped to me.

The game was Castlevania (the first) with a damaged label that i will replace, paid 12$ shipped.

I got a 5 SNES game lot for 33$ shipped (off ebay too)
-Donkey Kong Country
-Darius Twin
-Lagoon
-Top Gear x2
Bought these specially for Lagoon to complete the set.
Also got Pac-Man 2 The New Adventure for 3$ yesterday, currently working on a vertical cover but im not a really good artist, it will be a placeholder until we can find a better one! Unless someone got a good one hehe!

I got a ps3 Game for 2$ off best buy because i needed to buy a new router, shipping was free if i bought the game, so got a 6 or 7$ game for 2$ (instead of paying the shipping)
-Brutal Legend

And.....Got everything i needed this month to start building my shelves, been working on it the last few weekend, so i wasnt really active on pickups and stuff...and ps4 is coming, so im saving some money to get some more games at launch!

I got a free Sega master System with 2 controller, power hookup but missing the A/V cable with a copy of Rambo 2 complete!
A coworker had 2 SMS and since he knows i'm into collecting video games, he just decided to give it to me!

I was quite surprised and happy, as i never owned a Sega Master! Now i need to clean it good because it was really dirty and find a system box....!

The PC-Engine port is based on the Arcade version. The Super Nintendo version is actually the second game in the series. In Japan, the super Famicom game is called Ninja Warriors Again.

Got a whole lot this month but this is probably my favorite of the bunch.

Not in the best condition though...the ball has small cracks and it seems that someone spilt soda on top of it because the buttons are sticky and nasty, metal plate on top has a couple rust spots on top and on the underside, bottom metal plate is dirty.

I tried cleaning it up and in my efforts I ended up wearing down the lettering on the top plate :( Mr Cleans magic eraser was working wonders lol

But besides the sticky buttons everything seemed to work fine and it just gave me all the more of a reason to get these...

@Ludicium - WOW. That's one hell of a load!  :o

Got a handful of spice GBAs to mod for the biz, then realized I don't have one of my own. That problem has been fixed ;D

The GO was a total impulse buy and I don't even know why. I NEVER do that sort of thing. But with that out of the way, I do think it's pretty cool. I think I'm gonna hack it and use it as my EMU machine for playing at work or when out and about.

The zillion copies of The Con were .99 each at my local computer store. Grabbed every copy they had. Nothing like minty new PSP cases for some of my more worn games. I had about 5-6 more before I took the pic, but had already put the cases to good use ;) from that same store were a few copies of R&C Size Matters, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, & Pure. All new, all .99.

Yes.  The statue lights up.  it's one of the best special edition bundles i've ever owned.  And it's pretty big, too.

...that's what she said.....anyhoo, yeah, when I picked mine up I kept the box it came in too because it came 1 to a case pack.

Also, why aren't your antenna on the 3 little tvs to the right? They were packed in like the batteries.
