Nintendo just doesn't learn, huh? Link's Crossbow Training comes in a cardboard sleeve.

Not out yet.
-
You'd think Nintendo would've learned by now to not be so cheap on games, but I guess not. BTW, where'd you you get that, anyway? Is the Zapper accessory out already?

It wouldn't be on the shelf. It's included with the Wii Zapper accessory.

(the game is just a bonus)
i'm going to see if there is any at wal-mart ;D

Sorry for getting your hopes up. It comes out next week. That's just someone else's early copy. If I had it, I'd scan it in. Hence the prequest. Hope you didn't get laughed at at Wally World.
-
grrr...
Seriously, why do they use these cardboard sleeves? Do they really save *that* much money? :(
-
I'll probably get my copy in a day or so. I'll be sure to scan it so we can get a DVD version up asap.

if you get it before me can you also scan the back of the box too?
i noticed it has a lot of info & pictures that can be used for the cover.
-
Sure will. I'll post scans so you guys can get started on the cover.

Got mine today.
Sometimes, I hate Nintendo.

While I don't want to encourage an "e-mail Bomb" to Nintendo or anything, I do want to encourage well through out (better than what I did, at least) e-mails and phone calls to Nintendo asking them to stop this practice of shipping games in crappy sleeves.
Dear Nintendo...
Today, I purchased the Wii Zapper bundle with Link's Crossbow Training. While the $20 price tag was nice, I have to say, I'm ticked that, once again, as with Wii Sports, the game was shipped in a crappy cardboard sleeve. Fine, I know I can order my own cases and print my own cover insert (all at an additional cost), but the issue is the fact that optical media isn't really designed to be shipped in such a fashion - so here I've just purchased a brand new game and the surface area of the disc already has minor scratches on it (cosmetic only, the game plays fine).
To make matters worse, while checking out the package to see if a regular retail case would fit inside, while allowing the box to retain the same dimensions, I notice that the cardboard insert is actually designed to hold a regular game case!
Come on! This sucks! And, to top it off, while I may care enough (too much?) about my game to order me another case to store it in, most people won't - they'll simply use the cardboard sleeve, allowing it to get scratched more and more... I work retail and have people come in every so often looking for a new Wii Sports disc because the old one is scratched (and they don't know how it got that way... gee, let me guess!)
So, what I'm asking - nay, begging for y'all to do is stop giving us these crappy cardboard sleeves. If WiiFit comes shipped in one of these... I'll... well... Buy it anyway, buy a replacement case and print another cover off... But I won't be happy about it!
Thanks for reading...

Apparently, there's already been an attempt at a LCT cover. Unfortunately, he's done something weird with the back, saying you can use four controllers with it?
-
I wonder if Europe gets the cardboard sleeve as well or a white Wii DVD case. The first two or three shipments of Wiis had Wii Sports in a normal white Wii DVD case so I'm cautiously optimistic.
-
Thanks for the Scans Sno!
my first wii cover, i can't wait to pick this game up!

Great cover and great publicity for the site. :)
Thanks! :)
-
That's definitely going on my shelf. Nice job, Shenske!
-
XD
Before it was on kotaku, I looked and there were 45 downloads. Now there's almost 2000.
-
I hope it brings people with a lot of unscanned NES boxes.
Well no harm in hoping right?

-
;D This is insane! ;D
i never thought the cover would take off like this!
(if i would have known that it would be this popular i would have spent some more time on it)
i'm really glad all of you guys like it.

I knew about this site a little before, but Wii Sports coverage from every blog ever made me get off my ass and actually do something.

With over 46k downloads for that cover alone from our site, I'd say it was pretty popular. Not to mention all the derivative works that have hundreds and thousands of downloads each.
-
In the second link, i read that one of the people said that the UPC on the game is for Super Mario Galaxy.
-
In the second link, i read that one of the people said that the UPC on the game is for Super Mario Galaxy.
that is correct, I didn't have a UPC for LCT so i used another wii UPC.
-
There shouldn't be a UPC for LCT though right?
-
Not that I can see. Shenske, maybe you should take off the barcode and leave it blank.
-

no there was no upc on the sleeve.
i figured since the wii sports covers on te site had a upc then there should be one for LTC
-
Not that I can see. Shenske, maybe you should take off the barcode and leave it blank.
I second that... If it has no UPC it should have no UPC....
-
Now that the cover has been downloaded about 3000 times ...
did you guys across the pond think i forgot about you?
Link's Crossbow Training PAL
(http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/4838/lctpalprepn1.jpg)
keep in mind this is my first PAL cover and i don't exactly know everything about the european covers.
if you see anything that is wrong, please point it out. shorty after i will upload the cover.
my questions...
1. why are there different color triangles as the bottom of the spine on european covers?
2. what are the languages on the back cover?
(i know the top is english and the bottom is spanish, i'm clueless about the middle language)
3. will those languages work for a PAL cover?
thanks,
well anyways ... tell me what you think :)
edit: i know the europeans will most likely get a retail case from nintendo when it is released over there. i'm just throwing it out there ;)
-
Nicely done shenske.... The middle language is french afaik....
Hmmm..... In my oppinion a PAL cover should be with english, german and french but that is maybe just because I speak german....

good to know, thanks.
could you possible translate the text on the back to German?
that way i can try to put that language on the cover
-
Using Babelfish, I was able to translate the text into German. Here you go: Mit Training Crossbow der Verbindung erarbeiten Sie das Wii Zapper in keiner Zeit!

I agree. The same goes for Wii Sports.

thanks twilightwolf,
to any of the Germans/Austrians out there, is this conjugated correctly?

Great job, shenske!

Great job, shenske!
My only nitpick (and this is just a me nitpick, not a knock on your work nitpick) is that most of the spine logos for Wii games I see don't used glows or drop shadows. Kinda like this.

Sorry but the translation is horrible..... Babelfish and it's likes are not very compotent when it comes to grammatic... ;D
A good translation would be:
Mit Links Crossbow Training werden sie den Wii Zapper in kürzester Zeit perfekt beherrschen!
-
I printed out the first one and (probably) won't be printing out another, but if you really, really wanted a UPC on the game, I'd say put the UPC from the Zapper onto it. Just a thought.

Oh, well, I tried, at least. If I'd known that Babelfish was terrible at that, I wouldn't have used it.

I agree. I think the Zapper UPC would be the way to go on this cover.
-
You rock, shenske! This is so going on my shelf!
Oh, gosh I hope they don't put Wii Fit in a cardboard sleeve.
When will NOA ever learn... :(

Knowing them, they probably WON'T learn, and they probably WILL put it in a cardboard sleeve.

It seems that Nintendo is putting all games included with accessories/consoles into cardboard sleeves. I think that for some strange reason, Nintendo thinks that they cannot afford to put every game into a case. Or maybe Nintendo thinks that the included games are not worthy of a case because they are more like mini games than complete games. Any way you think of it, it still isn't a good excuse.
Thank God for the Cover Project! ;D
-
Again, I encourage everyone to send Nintendo well thought out e-mails expressing your displeasure with the cardboard sleeves....
I appreciate your taking the time to share your comments with us regarding the cardboard sleeve that was used to package Link's Crossbow Training. Rest assured that your e-mail will be forwarded on to the appropriate department for further review.

shenske, great work on the cover. I made a few minor adjustments if anyone is interested.
The modifications totaled as follows...
- The side bar had an artifact under "Link's" which I removed along with a few other nits that I don't remember the location of.
- The back text was a scan of Super Mario Galaxy... which is fine however:
* The background of that scan was not white, but rather gray that noticeably stuck out when I viewed it on screen. I fixed that .
* I replaced the UPC of SMG with that of the "Wii Zapper + Link's Crossbow Training" along with a [Not for Resale] overlay. That way if anyone likes to scan there covers into a database it should work. I didn't bother changing the text next to the UPC. (as it still reads "RVL P RMGE USZ" which is SMG and not "RVL R RZPE USZ".... but, well the work to change that wasn't worth it )
- Added a 3 px white boarder followed by a 3 px light gray boarder to make it easier to cut.
Printed it on silk paper at OfficeMax. Turned out a little on the dark side, but overall the clarity of the print is much better than what I can get out of my HP 712c. If you hold the case up to SMG you'll see that the Wii Logo is a notably darker gray than that found on the SMG box. I don't know if that the result of the Office Max printing equipment or software, or if the original needs a gamma boost. The quality is excellent though. (Note there is NO correction to the gamma in the PNG file linked above)

That's how you introduce yourself. Nice job.
?? Not sure if that was directed at me.... I'll note that the cover I linked to is NOT meant to be a submission to the site, but rather a submission to the original author and the users of this forum. Feedback on the original work if you will.
Anyways, my first cover here was that of a CD cover to Wii Sports, and was thinking of doing the same for Link's Crossbow Training if anyone is interested.

shecky bumps posts.
-
Some new info for what it's worth.... I noted some issues with color and brightness when printing - well, turns out that the Office Max clerk did some sort of "auto correct" before processing the job (without even asking!). I'm not sure what kind of effects that had on the brightness/color.
