I assume you are referring to EU Mega-CD..  There were a few releases done in long boxes but most were released in CD jewel cases (in about 3 different styles).

Grumbleduke:

I LOVE THAT TEMPLATE!!!. I have several EU MCD scan that you can use. I also have been working in a new JP MCD template (I never really liked the previous one I did).. I'll post a preview later today.

Thanks Vt102. What were these long boxes like? Similar to the Saturn boxes?

Oh, I also noticed you made the Mansion of Hidden Souls cover that's on the site. I don't suppose you have any scans/artwork from the European release - Yumemi Mystery Mansion? It's the only game I have which I haven't been able to find any decent scans/artwork for.

The long boxes for EU-MCD games were exactly the same as those for US-SegaCD games.... I only know Sewer Shark was released in that style('cause I have it) but there are some more for sure(I saw Prize Fighter in a long box once).....

Yup, Vt is spot on. Nearly all my games came in dual cd cases (yuk).Long boxes were the same as the U.S ones. And VT, your scans and especially a JP MCD template would be fantastic. I have about 10 or so JP MCDS's that are screaming out to be covered with it. ;)

One point: the way imandix lights this makes the 'watermark' seem brighter than it is. Me personally, i think the red stripe spine gives it a distinctive MCD look, i think the underlayed picture on the back is quite effective BUT im not sure on the Mega CD marks. I think they help break up a what is basically just a black cover  and the more i look at them, the more they grow on me but im not sure they've grown enough. ;)

Chuck Rock, Ground Zero Texas and Hook were also released in Long Box..

Also.. Here is the new JP MCD template I've been working on.. The front is pretty much done (thinking of adding a watermark to the black portions), I'm still working on the rear..

Vt102, thanks for the Yumemi RAWs.

Grumbleduke, I'm not really sure about the template. I quite like the 'cleaner' look of the plain black one, although maybe with the underlayed image as well, as it might be just a bit too clean. Having said that, I also don't mind the watermarks. My main problem with them is their visiblity/brightness, especially on the back where it makes it look a bit too busy in my opinion, but you said that's mainly Imandix's fault. If it's not too much trouble, could you post a low-res preview of the 'printable' watermarked cover, rather than an imandix preview?

As you can see, I'm going to be an invaluable asset for your decision making.

This should complicate things a little more then... ;)

Very time consuming but i think fairly accurate to the original. Problem being the sheer amount of stuff they packed onto the back of the box. All the Digital Pictures trademark stuff in particular...Instaswitch..Digichrome...Udirect.

The three typesside on. I will see what i can come up with for the "Type 1" though i think all black is a little bit too spartan.

That 32x spine looks odd, and clashes with the title on the spine. I guess it's staying true to the original, but to me it's annoying.

Wow... very nicely done. I'm not sure you could have made that look any closer to the original.

And despite the back being a lot busier than the MCD one, I really like it. It all just seems to... fit together more naturally than the MCD back, I think.

Having thought about it, one of the problems I have with it might be the placement of the back image. Maybe if it ended above the Compact Disc and UK Version logos? I don't know. It's not that big of an issue, really. I mean, if I find that the back is really bothering me [which I doubt it would], I can always just edit the covers as I see fit.

As far as the front and spine are concerned, I definitely prefer the watermarked version. Especially seeing the three types next to each other. It fits in well with the second MCD and the 32X covers. And the front just looks too bare without it, especially if compared to the other two covers.

Since typing that, I've printed out the watermarked cover. Disregard all I said. :P The watermark nicely fills up the empty areas, but doesn't stand out as much as it does in the Imandix previews. And although I still think the back image might be better ending above those logos, it's so much of a non-issue when you're actually looking at the cased cover that I'm not really sure it's worth bothering about. Great job on this template, Grumbleduke.

As for Doom's comment about the 32X spine, I can see how on some games it could be problematic. However, unless you go for a split-section spine like the Gamecube and PS2 etc, with the '32X' pattern only in the 'Mega-CD 32X' section, there's not really much you can do. And that wouldn't work, because then the back/front continuation of it would be broken. An alternative would be to use the opposite spine of the cd case, which is plain black [on Night Trap, anyway] but plain black spines are pretty boring. Perhaps you could fade it on the spine?
Personally I like the current spine as it is, but I only have one Mega-CD 32X game [for now, anyway] so I'll leave it up to people with more of them to decide.

@ Doom

It was a problem i have messed about with for ages. The originals are in dual jewel cases. One spine had Mega CD 32X and the logo as i have it, the other was pure black with the game name in a yellow 'impact' type font. I tried fading the spine a little to bring up the title but it looked odd. I tried the black spine too but then it did'nt match the look of the other two spines. So i decided on this one. Luckily, there'd only about half a dozen games for the system anyway.

@ VT

Like the Mega CD JP template, especially the way you have the front. Should make converting a bit easier.

And so now begins the task of turning these hundreds of number only layers into a working template. ;D  Glad you liked the printout tdm.

You mean i spent 9 hrs making a template for a system with 5 games on it !! ;) On an unrelated note, check this out  (mainly vt), recognise anything?

One last experiment. I added a rear underlay image and a different level of text size for single language versions. In the final template, it will all be optional (i hope  ;)). Also, i wanted to see  how long it would take with the basic structure in place to make up a cover (about an hour). Two versions of this, one with the (yawn) E.U front and the other with the more interesting JP and US one.

..and thanks to vt for some great scans.

I havent thrown in my two cents yet  ;)

Great job Grumbleduke on the MegaCD and MegaCD32X Templates. I really like how you made them look like the blue Megadrive style but still distinctive.  As far as which style I prefer ... I honestly couldnt choose one as i like them both.  I will say that on the Yellow and Red style i do like the faded megacd watermarks.

Anyways great job, it looks like a solid template.  Oh, does the Sega logo at the bottom of the spine line up with the Dreamcast DVD cover's Sega logo?
