Custom Spines - Requests Welcome

Holy cow! You did a great job with the numerals! From the preview alone, I can't tell that there were numerals there to begin with. Very nicely done.

I know that it's still a work in progress (and I don't know why I care so much, since I don't own any Dragon Quest games anyway) but would it be possible to fix V and IX so that the swirls aren't cut? And the sky is nice but barely noticeable.

Thanks! Yeah those numerals were a little challenging to remove, but it definitely helps, I think. I will be making the titles for V and IX smaller to match the size of IV and VI, and that should make XI not get cut off. V is harder because of how big the rings are, but I'll do my best to avoid cut off. I'm afraid there's no way to avoid cutting off the top of the castle on IV without making the whole title really really small.

The sky looks darker on different monitors I've just noticed, so I might make it a little brighter so it will print at the subtlety I'm going for, if the sky idea is accepted by soundwave925. I didn't want it to stand out much at all, just subtle enough to make the background more interesting than just straight black.

These are boxset spines, so it shouldn't be a problem if the rings or the castle spill over onto the other covers, right?

I have no problem with the sky background, it actually makes it look more interesting than just solid black. Its looking really great so far, I'm impressed on how you managed to remove the roman numerals on each logo.

Do you think the roman numerals should be gold like the way they looked when they were apart of the logo or just white?

Whelp, I went ahead and got a little overzealous. I made 3 boxset spines, and all three are centered around Mega Man Zero, and all three are centered more specifically on the 4 Guardians. I'm sure I went too far, since I doubt anyone aside from myself was ever interested in Zero series spines, but I had fun making them.



Each one is available on my box.net account, as always. And yes, the preview spines are purposely small.

And I think I'll take a break from spines, at least until I churn out another custom cover. I have a few ideas in mind, and all I'll need are some specific scans, but that's for another thread.

I too will probably take a break from spines for a little while after I finish the Dragon Warrior/Quest spines. Besides, until I can find out where to get more EU DS cases, I'm just creating a backlog of covers that I can't print yet... 

@soundwave925: I'll try the numerals in gold and see what you think. I'll also take Seraph's advice and have the logos spill over a little so they don't get cut off. Unless there are plans to release Dragon Quest 7 or 8 on DS/3DS, this set shouldn't have any changes to affect the order. And even if it did, I could alter the affected ones when it happens to adjust the set.

Okay well after a few very busy days, I've been able to get some free time to complete some more spines! I've uploaded the completed Dragon Warrior/Quest spine set in US size. I made the logos overlap a little rather than being cut off. It may look a little odd on the preview where 4 connects to 5 and 5 to 6, but they should look fine when printed I think. I also made the roman numerals gold, as close to the look of the numerals in the game logos as I could. The only logo I couldn't remove the numeral was Dragon Warrior III, though I don't think it's too distracting.

I also realized I forgot one of Sonic's handheld adventures - Sonic Pocket Adventure to be exact, so I made a spine to match my other Sonic spines in both US and EU sizes. Unless I forgot something, other than the GBA/DS Sonic & Sega All-Stars-type games, I believe I've made covers for every handheld Sonic game!

EDIT: Have a look at all the Sonic spines! What better way to celebrate 20 years of the blue blur than a collection of 25 way past cool handheld adventures? (okay I'm done with Sonic references  ) I may have gotten a little carried away after my original 3 Sonic Advance spines, but it was fun to make one for each game. I'll do Sonic Generations once it comes out, probably featuring both Sonics.

Good God Man, those DQ spines look fantastic! Youv totally went above and beyond what I was expecting. I cant wait to print them out and see what they look like on the shelf, I should probably try and get DQ VI and IX too.
I do have one last small tiny favor though.......... could you put the enix logo on the Dragon Warriors instead of the square enix? I know its not quite as uniform but I think Id rather have the actual developer on it because it would just look kinda weird with the rest of the cover. Thanks

As for the sonic spines, awesome job on that as well. Makes me want to go out and collect all the game gear games. I think your missing one more handheld though, SonicN on the N-Gage

I've put up alternates for Dragon Warrior I & II, and Dragon Warrior III with the Enix logo. Glad you like the set!

And for Sonic, I'll revise my statement and say that I've done spines for all the Sonic handheld adventures that this site has a template for. Besides, it's pretty much a port of Sonic Advance. But if there were templates for them, I suppose I could make that and even.... **shudder** ......Sonic Jam on Game.com... I'm also not planning to do the pirated games like Sonic 6, Sonic Adventure 7/8/3D Blast 5 and Sonyc.

Ah, nice! Those turned out great in person!  Thanks for sharing the pic. Also cool to see the Game & Watch set again - I haven't been able to print mine out yet until I get more cases.
