hello every one i am new here and i am very interested in the cover project.
i have having some problems though, see i want to make a case for metroid hunters first hunt. i downloaded it on to photoshop., but when i go to print it , it not only is too small but it only prints half of the back cover and half of the front. how do i fix this and start making cases?

Dont print it from Photoshop. Graphic's programs can be pretty naff for that .....

I simply open a word doc, paste the cover into it, size it to the correct dimension for the particular case I am using and then print it out.

  • ...and that's the bottom line
You can get it here from the official website:

http://www.gimp.org/index.html

And yes, it's open source and completely free and has about the same functionality as Photoshop

Paint.NET 3.0 beta was also just released and it's very nice. I'm going to try printing a cover from it today.

Try them both. You may prefer one over the other.

Will either of these programs let me change the size of just one part of a picture? I ask because I've been scanning the covers of my computer games and changing them so they will fit a standard dvd case instead of a stackpak. In order for me to do it with photoshop I have to seperate the scan into three parts. Change the size of the side part and put them back together. It's not that hard to do (I'm living proof I'm a moron when it comes to making covers) but still I can't shake the feeling that theres an easier way.

download GIMP and GTK+Runtime Enviroment

Also with Gimp ypu can just download the cover , print it out and it fits perfectly or is there some tunning involved.

nope, all you need to do is open it through gimp and print
you can even just right-click the cover, select Open With->GIMP, then select File->Print

Gimp is picky too. I was using it to print some odds and ends and it was cutting off the edge of the picture. Using Paint worked amazingly...
