As promised here are the results:

Overall the cases are of pretty good quality.

Here is what the case looks like prior to the mod.

Minimal mod required for SNES – took about 30 seconds with the Dremel

Zelda with manual

The case will close with the dust cover on but it will bulge slightly if there is a manual in there.  Without the dust cover there is no bulge.  I’m pretty sure larger manuals could fit easily.

There cart does not rattle at all.

More modding required for NES.  Took about 2 minutes with the Dremel.

Megaman 3 with manual

Closes no problem with manual and dust cover but the manual clips do not press down hard enough to hold the slimmer NES manuals in place

Megaman and Zelda

Spine view

Overall my thoughts are:

They seem more sturdy than UGCs and I think the SNES games look amazing in them.

I find the NES games look weird to me in a black case.

I will probably use these for my SNES games and keep with the UGC for my NES collection.

Do you have any other games to try these out with? I still have an order for UGC's in, but I've been debating whether or not I'd wanna use these DVD cases instead.

I use these for US, SNES, PAL/JAP SNES, NES, Famicom and Jaguar games and all fit fine.

So pretty much anything I own would be fine as well. Except maybe N64? It's a thicker cartridge, isn't it?

Oh, just forgot to mention them, they fit fine too.

Thickness is not problem with DVD cases as the thickness varies from 25-36mm (maybe even 48mm).
I use 27.5 mm cases, but

Any downsides in comparison to UGCs?

(yeah, I'm trying to make sure I get my moneys worth, lol)

For me the Pros of the DoubleWide DVD cases are:

1.  You can get them from more than one place depending on where you live whereas there is only one spot to get the UGSs

2.  The double wide DVD cases seem more solid than the UGC .. at the least the cases I got do.

3.  The black color looks really nice (except I prefer the NES games in the clear cases but that's more personal preference)

4.  The DVD cases have a clear sleeve which lets the amazing covers created by members of this site look really nice as opposed to the frosted sleeves of the UGC.

5.  The DVD cases can come with manual clips and also fit manuals for SNES and N64 games while the UGCs do not have clips at all.

Basicially obtaining the DVD cases for the first time has made me want to convert my SNES collection from UGC to DVD case.

I decided to keep going with UGC for my NES games because I prefered how they look in a clear case and I already have about 60 games cased in them along with another 30 or so already modded and waiting for cover art and I bought 200 of them to start so I figure I might as well keep going with them to complete my NES collection.

I'd say both are pretty awesome and it's nice to have options.

Wait, they can't hold SNES/N64 manuals?

You can just lay the manual on the cart and close the case. There's no clips for them or anything though.

Nope UGCs don't have clips and have hard time fitting SNES and N64 manuals.
Some DVD cases have clips and all can fit SNES and N64 manuals nicely

Well I am glad to see that the discussion on these has continued. I did not order any. I decided I dont have the room to case my NES collection this way. I have well over 700 NES carts and there is just not enough room for shelf space to case them all. I did order some of the clear NES cart protectors from a guy on Nintendo Age. He has sold out but I believe someone else is going to offer them soon. Here is a pic of them

I may still case some of my other types of carts, but I am more focused on finishing my NES collection first.

I'm guessing Media Shelving finally got the cases in because my account was charged. I guess I'll wait and see what I think of the UGC when I can hold it in my hand before I decide to sell them off or not.

Which dremel bit are you using on these cases?

I got a small batch in to try them out and prefer them to ugcs. I used side cutters which work well enough but I have a dremel just sitting here and ~200 of these to mod soon.
