Hi, I'm new to The Cover Project but I've been collecting N64 games and I couldn't find a decent gamecase. I wasn't planning on spending alot of money on doublde dvd boxes which you have to modify with a knife. I'm 29 games short of completing the N64 PAL collection cart only so that would mean I'd have to cut up over 200 boxes.

But a few days ago I was at my friends house who just moved. I saw on his table a nice looking double dvd box. But I recognized it because it was a box which holds the manuals of our digital television provider. The inside is flat, unlike a dvd box. And I thought this could be what I've been looking for. I asked for the box which he didn't mind giving me, and at home I checked to see if it was going to fit.

Well it did fit but the fit was just a bit to tight by half a mm. The box still closed and stayed closed but there's a small gap from where the halves should meet. I dug up my manuals with the box and checked those out. I found that I had 2 and tried them and these fit perfectly! You couldn't fit a manual in the along with the game but if you don't mind this you're benefit will be that the boxes take up a bit less space.

I checked out the boxes why one box holds the N64 cartridge perfectly and the other barely. I noticed a sticker on both with a company name and a version number. These version numbers didn't match so they were different boxes.

My N64 cartridge can slide in the box, but not easily. If I put the box standing up the cartridge slowly slide down and will take about 6 seconds the touch the bottom. So the fit is perfect for a N64 cartridge. You could even fit in 2 cartridges. Glue in some narrow plastic walls (could be anything plastic that holds a cartridge in place, glue it on with plastic glue) and you could fit in all kinds of cartridges, without cutting!

I was thinking about contacting the company that I found on the sticker. I'm not sure if the company produces them but if not I could ask them where they buy them in. But usually companies like this only sell in large numbers. So I'd thought I'd check here because: Would there be an interest in boxes that can hold the cartridge but in most cases not the manual?

Leave some comments or thoughts about this.

I added some pictures (click to enlarge)

I aplied in the lazy reader's mod :p

Not bad if you store games without manuals.

if the outer case dimensions in terms of height and width are the same as a DVD case - then i am extremely interested.  Also my assumption is, that if N64 fit fine, then EU/JP Snes should fit even better?

Would need around 300 at the moment.

  • ...and that's the bottom line
If it holds NES carts then I'd be interested too. I got my SNES and Jaguar games boxed already in VHS cases,  The Genesis/Mega Drive games in their original cases and if these cases you showed us held NES games, that'd be perfect.
