Ah, I'll keep that in mind if I have any issues.

I'll be using the laser printers at Kinko's though so I think I'll be okay.

(oh wow oops I just realized I left Rayden's name as "Fighter Name". Fixing right now!)

Now that UGCs are back, I think it's time to revive this fun project!

I've added quite a few inlays to my box.net account. There's almost too many to post here, so I'll tell you what games I've made them for:

Goldeneye 007, Banjo-Kazooie, Shadows of the Empire, Yoshi's Story, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64 (including 2 Lylat maps), and several high resolution Star Wars inlays using screen caps from the Blu Ray release for use in any Star Wars game case.

Unfortunately, a few of the N64 ones had lower res image sources, so I attempted to clean them up as best I could. I think that most defects won't be seen behind the UGC case though.

Here's a few previews:

Haha, too true. I've uploaded a fixed one with re-rotoscoped lightsabers which you might find more appealing.  :)

Wow, I love this idea! I'm definitely going to have to try out those Power Ranger inlays when I get some UGCs for my Genesis collection.
I have an idea though. So far these inlays are for specific games or franchises, why not create some generic inlays for particular systems? My idea for Sega games would be to make inlays in the style of the Genesis and 32X cardboard boxes, where the box was red (Genesis) or yellow/gold (32X) with white lettering as seen below

HUGE Edit:
So I had much more free time today than I thought I would and churned out a few inlays to test. I made a Genesis version, 2 32x versions (one based off the darker colored template, and a lighter one I thought might match the actual cardboard, meh), and I went ahead and made a Game Gear inlay for those who are considering boxing their games in UGCs and a Sega CD one for the Backup RAM Cart. Of course I don't have any UGCs with me at the moment and my local print shop is closed right now, but I might print a couple of these out in the next couple of days to see how they look in-case. In the mean time, if any of you want to print and try them out, be my guest.

You need to think text color again, as you need inlay for Saturn's memory cart aswell.
That's white text on white background...  ;)

At first I thought, "Oh Crap, how am I going to work the Saturn into this?" But then I realized while the Saturn also used the "stripes-layout" as the other Sega products did, it did not use the same font as the rest. The Saturn font has a bubbly-ness to it with some shading that would distinguish it from a white background. Which is all fine and dandy, but since I don't have the Saturn font on hand and really don't feel like hunting it down, I'm just not going to make one.  ;D

The Generic ones look good. I was planing on making generic ones for all systems (As said in my first post) but i was just going to make a striped one, but good idea for the official ones, i did not think of that. I sugest making a black grid Genesis one for older games on the system.

Very cool idea Gill! Also for Saturn you could simply add a black stroke to the text.

It would be pretty easy to modify the Game Gear one for Eurpoean DS case sizes. Since they are clear cases, but have enough stuff on them that a picture wouldn't look great, these would work perfectly for them. In the same vein I intend to have my Sega CD and Saturn games in clear DVD cases to match my UGCs and EU DS cases, so these would again work very nicely.

I think having striped versions of these would also be cool.

Hmmm... I'm sure there's some kind of similar pattern that would work for the Nintendo systems... At the very least they all have distinct logos. I'm sure we'd want to avoid black backgrounds since that would waste a lot of ink just for an inlay.

Great idea for use with DVD cases! I'm definitely going to modify the Sega CD insert for that in the near future. And I might try my hand at a DS insert for Game Gear games as well.

Not long ago I printed off some of my inserts and tested them out on the only 2 UGC-style cases I have. I'm fairly pleased with how they turned out. Here are some pictures (try to look past the surprising amounts of dust inside the cases):

I like how the red turned out and LOVE how the purple turned out. The last picture here gives a really good idea of how the inserts look in person and I'm really pleased with them.
However I wasn't happy with the 32X inserts, and I think mostly it has to do with the fact that neither the orange or yellow template we have really match up with how the retail boxes look. But, that being said, the darker insert looks good with the orange template. I was disappointed in how the yellow turned out though.

There is something some of you might have immediately noticed. These cases are older models of UGCs, and I think the biggest difference is the way they are designed to hold SNES games. The cases I have use two vertical walls instead of the horizontal ones that contemporary UGCs use. The reason I bring this up is that I think the SNES cart holders of current styled UGCs might be directly on top of the text on my current inserts, and that might be obstructive, so I may need to lower the text a little bit on the inserts. If I made a couple of ink friendly test inserts would anyone here mind printing them out and testing them in their UGCs? If so, that would be really swell and I could get the ball rolling on Saturn and black grid Genesis inserts
