Look at Nintendo putting out a smaller, slimmer Wii WITHOUT GameCube support!  Just trying to get people to forget abot GameCube before the Wii U comes out which will not be backwards compatible with GameCube stuff.  Big mistake Nintendo, big mistake.  You are pissing off a lot of fans.

The Wii is the size of 3 DVD cases and is 150$ How much smaller and cheaper can you make it? It removes Gamecube controller ports also. Maybe they herd about the Europe PSP update with no WiFi and Nintendo was like "Oh Yeah? Well we can re release useless up dates and have them exclusive to Europe to." But with the size, out of the 11 consoles I own, the Wii is the smallest.

It's not a big deal at all.

Anyone who cares about the Gamecube, has GameCube games and/or has GameCube controllers already has a Wii or has virtually zero interest in owning one if they don't by this point.  On the off chance they don't fit into that, there will be approx 70 million or so units in the wild that will still support GameCube features.  It's not like Nintendo is going into these old systems and disabling their ability to play GCN titles.

I agree that this is no big deal for 1 reason.

Anyone that is a Nintendo fan will have a GameCube for at least the Game Boy Player.
It's like having a SNES 2.  :D

How is the Wii Classic Controller compared to the GC Controller?
Would that be a suitable replacement?

Probably more than OK, I just don't like how it has to be blugged in to Wiimote.
Why I hate it, I don't know.  ;D Maybe it's the bbattery thing.

The classic controller is great, especially the newer pro ones with the grips.

Pff

I wanted to buy a Game Boy player, but none of the retailers where I lived carried it :(

Now I don't have a GameCube anymore... I foolishly sold it.

Also, what's an SNES 2?

GBA games are about same level as SNES games -> GameCube + Game Boy Player = SNES 2
And as GBC gameas are about same as NES games, so also -> GameCube + Game Boy Player = NES 2

One problem is that some games are only compatible with one or the other or vice versa. Like Samurai Showdown Anthology only works with the Classic Controller and Metal Slug Anthology which only works with the Game Cube controller.

That's wierd that SNK wouldn't be consistent with the avaialble controls in their compilations.
I assume that Metal Slug Anthology can be played with a horizontally held Wii-mote?

This isn't bad or a problem at all, if anything people should be happy this is happening.
If people just want Wii games then buy a Wii slim, and if people want GameCube and Wii games, then buy a Wii.
Also if the Wii slim gets released then the Wii will likely drop in prices.
I don't see how this "pisses" off people.

It seems like a pointless update to me. I'm glad I already have my Wii. I guess this will make up for profits lost from the 3DS price drop.

It seems pointless at first but I kinda see what Nintendo is doing.... Release the Wii Slim at a low price point to get those that do not own a Wii currently and then let them purchase a few games... then the Wii U comes out and those that just recently bought the slim will be thinking hmmm "I should by a Wii U as it is currently compatible with my Wii games that I purchased".

It seems like Nintendo is the master at grabbing new users with backwards compabality and then dropping it in future updates. DS anyone?
