Take a UGC, paint it black, presto black UGC.

Believe it or not I've already considered this. I have a can of black Krylon Fusion spray paint that I used to modify the color of my 360 and controller, it looks very smooth and holds up strong, the only issue is the plastic sleeve. There's no way to successfully paint around it and the final result not look bad, since there's not going to be a way to cover up the "missed" area of the case.

Actually just wrap the sleeve in few times in news paper, close the case and paint.
the parts under the sleeve don't have to be painted as they won't show.

or! couldn't you just paint the inside of the case? since they're clear, the black would show through to the outside. then you don't have to worry about the sleeve or anything. hopefully the paint wouldn't rub off on any games or manuals though :-[

all in all though, it seems like the easiest thing to do would just be to buy black 28mm dvd cases. sure, they don't hold the games precisely, but.. big deal! plus you can get them in other colors too.

that was the plan actually, use primer and paint on the inside, from the outside, it'll have a nice even glossy finish. When I get mine, I am going to do

NES/Famicom in RED
SNES/SNES in Grey
Genesis in Blue
Pre-NES...stock color.
N64..undecided

then DVD cases would be
Sega CD/Saturn in Blue
Dreamcast US in Orange
Dreamcast PAL in a lighter blue
PS1 in Black, or Green for Greatest Hits.

I'm still so anal retentive, I'm not sure if I could handle knowing that my cases aren't solid black plastic, but rather painted. This is also the reason I can't even consider using wide DVD cases for cartridge games. Unless I were able to figure out a way to consistently and successfully modify them to hold the cartridge and booklet in place. I've even thought about researching to see if it's within the realm of reality to buy a Universal Game Case, make a mold, and literally buy the plastic, melt it down, and make my own cases. But I don't think I would be able to make them sleeved very easily.

You best show pictures once you finish it. I love color coordination.

I really do not want to just Paint It Black It seems WAY to tedious and time consuming, Plus it could rub of on the cartage or turn into a mess easily. I think we should try to get black cases, and if we can show media shelving there is a demand for them, we could get them, they did have them once.

They seem to have an issue keeping up with demand for even the clear cases...  :(

I think there are 2 reasons:
Thanks to our site and cover sellers the demand for the cases has spiked, and they said that they are moving to new factory.

This would be a good time to ask, sense they are manufacturing a lot.

Just use primer before you paint, it'll bond to the plastic better.

Yeah but the primer is whats gonna end up beeing seen through the plastic from the outside isnt it? Unless you uses black primer, but in that case there would be no need to paint it anymore.

If you are worried about that, then paint straight to the plastic and use a coat of "Clear Coat" which acts as a primer, but goes on top of the paint. Or you can get this stuff called "adhesion Promoter" which is a clear primer for plastic.

  • Think off-center.
Lol I don't think painting a ugc black or any other color would be realistic.

And just to avoid head aches, "clear coat" is not a primer. Its a clear coat or a "sealer" so to say to protect the paint from oils and other annoyances. "Adhesion promoter" is definitely not a clear coat its used before you prime/paint. Also adding these chemicals might warp the ugc itself. But if you must paint and are insistent get a can of "Krylon : Fusion" paint made specifically to bond with plastics with no sanding or priming required.

I just sent them an e-mail asking if they had plans to bring them back, and if not, what it would take to get them to do it. I'll let you guys know when I get a reply.

You're the first inquiry that I've received regarding this item since it was discontinued so I doubt that they'd considering bringing them back, sorry.

Someone would have to order a container load to make them worth while to produce (which would mean thousands of them I am sure).

So it looks pretty grim, unless a wealthier user here would be willing to buy an entire container's worth and sell them to the rest of us.

So basically give them $1000, and they'll make Black UGCs. Hmmm

Taking Donations, give me $1000, and I will order an entire container of Black UGCs.
