Don't buy a 3DS yet!  It is about to get much more affordable.  I just got mine last month, I am so pissed!  I love it and it is really cool, but I overpaid.  Here is the article:

Those who already bought it will receive 10 NES games and 10 GBA games as compensation, so I don't really feel cheated :>

They've only announced half of the games, though.
NES: Super Mario Bros.™, Donkey Kong Jr.™, Balloon Fight™, Ice Climber™ and The Legend of Zelda™
GBA: Yoshi's Island™: Super Mario™ Advance 3, Mario Kart™: Super Circuit, Metroid™ Fusion, WarioWare™, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong™

I'm really happy I held off. Going to pick one up the day the price drop hits, I already have Zelda and DoA and I have been dying to play them.

What Nintendo is doing for early adopters is very nice of them, you never see a company do that.
This price drop and the line up that has been slowly growing is going to make the 3DS a big hit this christmas.

The price drop is also going to hit Sony a bit hard, I'm sure they were hoping to win new people over by having the PSV the same price. Now I have a feeling we're going to see the DS/PSP situation all over again.

Amazing deal and a very aggressive move by Nintendo. Ladies and gentleman, the consoles' (handhelds anyone?) war has reborn from ashes (remember the good ol' battles between Nintendo and Sega?).

Hmmmm... So do I buy one now and get all those lovely freebies, or wait for the drop. Decisions, decisions.

I think that the value of those games exceeds the price difference, so I'd say buy now.

But I'll try sneakier option: I'll try to convince my local store to sell me One few days earlier at the lower perice.

Or the out right dick option: I I buy one few days earlier at the higher price and get the freebies.
And then buy one at the cheaper price, and return that as the expensive 3DS as the same store has return policy of 2 weeks.

Um I thought the price dropped yesterday?

Oh man, I saw the date July 28th and I thought that was it, but I guess that was the announcment date. The price drops Aug 12th.

All you probably have to do is buy it, then when the price drops two weeks later, price match the difference. I think most stores like Walmart or Best Buy allow that for 30 days or so.

Won't the DLC be tied to your 3DS serial number though?

Personally if I really want some of these games I'll get the retail box version so I'm going to wait for the drop.
"Could this be... an omen?!"

This would probably work in most places that won't realize the difference regarding the offer.

Although I think it's a little scummy, given that many of us paid $250 for the console, and the games are supposed to compensate for that. If you can sleep at night freeloading those games for the lower price.... go right ahead. But don't expect those of us who paid $250 legit to approve.

I completely agree with this. I'm actually really excited about the games being offered to me and I feel it actually exceeds the price drop value. I've had a blast with my 3DS so far and it has been worth the $250. I would hav eventually bought many of the virtual console downloads they are offering anyway so it works for me.

I'm actually really surprised at the price point they chose. I thought they were goon to announce a price drop in October to $199 to undercut the vita. It really caught me off guard seeing such a huge drop in price so quickly. It's been said before but this is a HUGE hit to the vita's plan. I'll end up getting the vita anyway though :D

So a cheap console plus the download games what can a man want more? :)

Yeah I think registering before the 12th of August is enough.
2 + 3 = 23
