hi, i just bought my first 3ds with zelda oot. i was looking at the case and it is just horrible. are all 3ds cases like that?
all full of holes? i know they may have tried to go eco, but the whole thing of the case is to protect the game. also, the artwrk
is alredy starting to look messed up. is there an alternative to this?

The holes are on the inside of the case, so who cares about that?  How is that affecting the artwork..?

The whole inner cover looks sweet, though I think it would benefit more if the case was semi translucent.

the paper cover, or artwork gets damaged since part of the surface rests over the case and the rest of the paper "rests" over the holes. these parts lightly get inside the holes and they start to wear out. very recently it happened with a brand new copy i got of sonic and the dark knight for wii. the box is all "eco" and the paper artwork is starting to look bad. i i have not even rested anything over that case.

i've seen that issue happen on ps3 greatest hits edition. they still print the inner artwork even if the cases are red. why do they use red anyways? the whole cover says greatest hits, has the gamepro or metacritic score and a quote by a magazine, and it has a red block on the op that says greatest hits

I don't really have any issues with the 3DS cases. At least on the 3DS case, the eco-holes are not in significant areas of the case like the Wii, blu-ray, and 360 cases. If I get one of the eco-friendly disc cases, I replace it immediately. I have not run into any PS3 games that feature the eco-case thankfully.

I'll get my hands on my 3DS on monday finally!!! Can't wait to test it out more as I've only played it a bit in a warehouse here in austria. Just out of curiosity. Any of you eu guys know if we got those 3DS eco cases here too? I was just wondering because I've never came acroos such a ECO case here in austria ever. Neither on 360 nor on PS3 or Wii..... Hmmmm. If I think about it I had a Wii ECO case once but it was an imported US game. ;D

Almost every dvd sold new has the stupid things now. I would say 90% or more of my dvd purchases in the last year have had them. They are also becoming the standard in video games as well. As with most "feel good" practices the thought is nice, reduce waste plastic, but it is not a well thought out solution. Everyone I know that threw out the dvd cases before still throws them out, but I used to take them for rehousing sega CD and Saturn games, and for games that I purchased that had no cases, but I am not interested in Eco Cases so they now end up in the land fill. But not only that, I also now toss the eco cases in the trash and rehouse in the properly made DVD cases that I have. I would be willing to bet that the transition to Eco Cases have actually ended up with MORE dvd case plastic ending up in the land fill not less.

Working at a video rental store, I can vowch for that more than 90% of all new DVD's are eco-cased

Retail games will eventually become discontinued somewhere between the next 5-10 years. I for one am glad that we still can buy plastic cases no matter the kind.

I don't know about that. My prediction is that won't happen for another ten years beyond your prediction. 15-20 years from now seems more realistic to me. Working at a Gamestop in a low income area for the last 6months has really opened my eyes to how many people still don't even have the Internet let alone high speed Internet. I don't think the "Big Three" would rush into digital only distribution so quickly and lose out on a huge revenue stream. Plus the PSP Go's experiment with that failed miserably.

Back on topic: Eco cases do bother the hell out of me for the most part but the 3DS ones don't. The holes are spaced far enough apart that the case isnt flimsy. The holes are also not in areas that would damage the cart that it is holding. The Eco cases for DVD games and movies are the ones that drive me up the wall. Who's great idea was it to make the holes in the cases directly under the bottom of the disc? Plus those damn cases have a flaw in the middle piece that holds the disc in place. If you don't properly take out your disc with care the disc will actually start to crack from the inside out. I get people trying to return their cracked discs everyday but there isn't a thing I can do ... the only thing I can offer them is showing them how to properly take the disc out of the case. No one actually listens though :(
