Number 2 and 3 both look terrific, and I definitely think both should be on the site. My one minor quibble with both is the Strider 2 sprite used for the bullet list on the back; it just looks odd and out of place to me. Also, with the 3rd one, I dunno if it's just perspective playing tricks, but it kind of looks like it's a bit off-center. Just make sure it looks nice and proper before you submit it. :)

Atomic Robo Kid does have a PAL version, I know I've seen it when I was a kid. I can't remember what it looks like, though.

I will take a look for a suitable bullet, although its hard to come up with one that looks ok! And the 3rd one did'nt look right with the fire column off centre, and i wanted to keep the image of Ton-Pooh in. Again, thanks for the feedback! :D

I say no bullet would be far better than the Hiryu sprite. I'm sure you'll come up with something decent anyway.

More work on Gunstar Heroes...

Gunstar Heroes (PAL)

Making the classic style PAL cover ended up being a bit more work than I expected; the Japanese boxart didn't fit as well as I'd hoped. Luckily, I got hold of some wallpapers from the PS2 version that I could use. It wasn't as high resolution as I would've liked, and some colours look a little funny, but IMO it's definitely good enough. It was a pain trying to work around the Mega Drive logo at the top of the cover though, no matter what I tried it ended up obscuring something. :/

Gunstar Heroes (PAL/Blue)

Since I had some other wallpapers, I could use those to make a decent back for the later PAL style case. This is probably the version I'm the most happy with.

Gunstar Heroes (Genesis)

I wasn't happy with the way the logo looked on this cover, so I used the stuff from the PAL cover to make a touched up version of this. I also fixed a few other small things.

I've been meaning to ask, what's the difference between the black and blue versions of the Mega Drive covers?

i believe its just different times they were released.  Similar to Black and Red Genesis covers.

So it wouldn't matter which one you downloaded, if you had said game?

Depends on how accurate you want your cased games to be.... I for my part always download what's available so even if I got the PAL version and there is only a genesis version cover available I use the genesis cover as long as there is no other cover.... I replace it when someone or meself gets the PAL one up.... So it all depends on you...

I'm pretty sure the  blue covers were just part of  a re-branding and modernizing of the Mega Drive brand. I'm not 100% sure but I think the older style black grid type were phased out in 1993.

Unlike Nintendo, Sega sold their MD/Genesis-Games in many different cases. With the initial release of the Mega Drive the used the grid-style covers. With the re-released of the MDII they switched to the new blue bubble/steele(??) labels to reflect the now more modern design of the md.

Some blockbuster-games like the sonic titles were first released in the old format and in later production-runs in the new ones. The actual case were more or less the same, but the inner construction differs from game to game (like style of the catrigde-holder, clips for instructions etc). The most anoying thing IMHO was that some cases had f*** holder-clips on the top used to store/display them in shops.

Some major publishers (like EA or Hudsun) had their own case and catridge-design. EA-Cases were quite fragile and often get out of shape. At the end of the MD some games (e.g. Sonic & Knuckles) were even sold with those crappy paper-cases they later on used for the PAL-32x-Games.

If you want a uniform appearence, its really hard to collect Sega :) Good to know there are now alternatives here!
