Well, the movies aren't based on the actual stories of the books to begin with. Only the first one stayed fairly close, but after that, the filmmakers went their own way. The title of the new film is actually taken from the first of Eric van Lustbader's series.
On another note, I watched "The Long Kiss Goodnight" for the first time yesterday; it was a little too freaky for me. I should have expected it, since Renny Harlin had done the fourth "Nightmare on Elm Street" as well. Geena Davis did an amazing job with the "psycho" persona, but overall, its not my kind of film. I also just read he was responsible for "Die Hard 2", easily the worst of them all.

I knew about the difference between the movies and the books. It was just that the people I was watching it with were saying stuff like this seems different and stuff.

if you really want to see a movie that is almost compleatly different to the book try 'the running man'
watched the film again on sunday and read the book yesterday, i was like WTF?! almost all the way through!
