I thought the first two were connected.

Some time after the first game Zelda fell a sleep and Link had to go on to the second adventure to wake her.

Yes, that is true. I left that one out, because it's the only obvious sequel. (I mean, come on, it's called Zelda TWO. ;D)

Yeah, the opening scene to Majora's Mask (while it's never stated clearly) is supposed to be Link searching for Navi after OoT. Also, Oracle of Seasons/Ages take place directly after one another depending on which order you play them in.

Also, Minish Cap is supposed to be a direct prequel to Four Swords, because the games show the villain Vaati going from his original form as a member of the Minish race to a full-sized sorcerer who ends up getting killed by Link using the Four Sword, then Four Swords Adventures comes directly after that.

Other than that, most games have no discernible connections. Except maybe Phantom Hourglass coming after Windwaker? I can't exactly remember the setup of Hourglass, but I'm pretty sure the game starts you out as the same tunic-less Link from WW, and you find the same boat and you don't seem to be too surprised by it. I THINK.

Also, Link to the Past says on the back of the box that it stars the Link and Zelda predecessors to the NES games. But, before the release of Ocarina of Time, Miyamoto told Nintendo Power in an interview that the order of the games went OoT->Zelda->Zelda2->LttP.

This whole series is screwed up.

See what I mean, there is no distinguishable timeline. Sure, LOZ-AOL, OoT-MM, WW-PHG, Minish-FS-FSA go with each other, but it seems there is little or no connection between the whole series, which is why I am thinking each game/set is in their own little universe.

That's exactly how I rectify the timeline in my mind. While some sets of games can be connected all the way through, like Minish-FSA, there are more obscure connections that Zelda timeline researchers have made. Such as this theory:

At the end of Ocarina of Time, Zelda sends Link back in time so he can live out his child years that he missed. This re-childed Link is the star of Majora's Mask. Okay, that's fine. Well, what happened to the story from Zelda's point of view? Imagine now the world revolving around Zelda. She just sent Link, Hyrule's only hero, back in time. Uh-oh, she's screwed. Ganondorf is revived and without a green-suited hero to vanquish him, Hyrule falls victim to his power. The Three Goddesses of Hyrule say "No way we can let this happen" and they flood Hyrule in an attempt to stop Ganon. Fast forward a few years and an alternate graphics style, and Windwaker picks up from there, with a new green-garbed hero going underwater to save flooded Hyrule. It's a crazy connection, but it holds up.

Honestly, I try not to think about it, so saying that the games take place in universes is fine by me. Some games show no possible way for them to be connected to other games, and so be it. Maybe one game set takes place 1,000,000 years in the future, after civilization and legend has crumbled and been destroyed completely, then re-built all over again. Or maybe they're all alternate realities. Or maybe these are all just folk tales, and each game is every storyteller's different rendition of the story. Actually, I like that. Each game is a legend being re-told by different people. As legends spread, they change. Things are forgotten, things are added in, things are changed, but the core elements are kept. A triforce, an evil wizard, and a green hero. It's just a legend being re-told over and over again.

The Legends of Zelda. ;)

I had to force myself to stop reading your comment, as I'm just playing Ocarina for the first time. I've actually never played Zelda before, but I just got the Zelda Collection on Gamecube. :P

Too bad it is missing the best one, Zelda a link to the Past.
Also try to get your hands on the Wind Waker bonus disc that has OoT and the OoT Master's Quest.
Latter has very wierd new puzzles in pretty much totally rewamped dungeons.

Should make you feel bit like discovering OoT for the first time.

Or hit your head really hard to lose your memory... or maybe not.  ;)

Let me duck behind cover first....

I think Wind Waker is the best Zelda after " A Link To The Past".

The artstyle really is a love it or hate it affair. I loved it. As for the gameplay, well, it's a Zelda so you won't be disappointed :)

Wind Waker is definitely a game you must play!  My top five Zelda games are as follows

1.  Ocarina of Time (N64)
2.  Wind Waker (GCN)
3.  A Link to the Past (SNES)
4.  Link's Awakening (GB)
5.  Twilight Princess (GCN/Wii)
