How to upload a Cover (For the time being)

Pages: (1/5) > >>

ShoothimNow:

Many users, as well as many new members (welcome!), have been wondering on how we have been hosting pictures due to the “upload” form being disabled for the time being.  Right now, the upload form has been disabled due to a hack attempt on the site, so until Snow updates it we (everyone) has to find an alternative way to upload covers.  This thread should help those who are wondering how to get started.

REQUIREMENTS –
1) DO NOT USE IMAGESHACK
2) DO NOT USE IMAGESHACK
3) DO NOT USE IMAGESHACK
4) DO NOT USE IMAGESHACK
5) DO NOT USE IMAGESHACK
5) DO NOT USE PHOTOBUCKET

DO NOT USE MEGAUPLOAD
It's boring to wait 3/4 of a minute before download, then wait 2 minutes + 3/4 of a minute before next download.

Many new users have been using ImageShack, however ImageShack (which you may not know) does an image format that terribly removes the quality of a cover.  SO DO NOT USE IMAGESHACK.
EDIT BY ARSEEN: Same goes to Tinypics and Photobucket

 “So what website should I use?”
- It has been in favor to use either box.net or mediafire.com.  The main reason I am writing this guide is because even though both websites work perfect for most needs, mediafire.com has one noticeable advantage over box.net right off the getco; the ability to view pictures that have been uploaded.  Wouldn’t you rather look at a picture than a bland link?  I sure would!  I would rather look at the picture right off the bat, and honestly, most of the times that links are posted, I never check (let alone other users).

/* *** How to show the picture inside TCP *** */
1) Go to http://www.mediafire.com/ and log-in (or sign-up)

2) Either upload the picture or find the picture that has been uploaded.

3) Click that picture that you wish to preview.

4) Right-click the picture that is shown (this is a thumbnail – NOT the real picture * the real picture would slow down the loading of a page due to size of the picture) and click “Properties”

5) Select all of the Address (URL) and paste it into the forum thread you are posting in.

6) Highlight the URL that you just posted and place it into a “img” tag by placing the “Insert Image” button.

7) If you want to link to the picture so that people can download it, you can then insert 1 of 2 things for people to do.

8 ) First find the URL to the picture (found on the mediafire.com website underneath the picture you are previewing.  There is a box that states “Share this file” with a url in a textbox.  Copy this URL.

----- Here Is A Quick Coding Lesson
- 1) Everything goes between opening tags and closing tags
- Opening Tag – :: Closing Tag –
- 2) Anything you want to LINK to goes INSIDE the OPENING Tag
---
--- Example ::
- 3) Now, whenever you click this ‘tag’, you will be transported to “Google.Com” however…
- there is no wordings explaining what this tag is saying.  So we simply have to put wording
- inbetween the opening and closing tags
--- Testing
--- Example :: Google
- Now when someone gets to this part of your post and sees “Google”, it will be
- a link to “google.com”.  Simple!

8a) ** Making the thumbnail inserted “clickable”
right now you have an image that is shown on the page.  In order to make this image “clickable” we have to place a hyperlink tag AROUND the image tag.  This is extremely simple to do.  Repurpose this code for your own use (delete all of the spaces inside the [ brackets ].  If there are no spaces I cannot show the example on how to do so.  So instead of [ brackets ], delete the spaces so that it looks like [brackets].  Alright, now to make a clickable image.  I will do this with an example picture.

8b) ** Making the thumbnail ‘clickable” and adding text underneath the picture indicating the picture is clickable

Of course by doing this, many people may not know that the pictures are clickable, so you might wish to indicate you can click it to download it.  So you can add a [ color=red ][ /color ] tag and state “Click to Picture to Download” inside the ][ section.

Click the Picture to Download

8c) ** Making the thumbnail ‘not clickable” and adding text underneath the picture for download (standard)

Say you don’t like that, say you want to have the thumbnail there, but NOT have the image clickable.  This is also perfectly fine.  Many users wish to have an image and then a download button underneath it.  Here is how to do it.  Remove the URL tag from the picture and place it to the “Click the Picture to Download” part of your code.

8d) ** Making the thumbnail ‘not clickable” and adding custom text underneath the picture for download

“Well Craig, I... hhhhaaaatttteeee having to show the link “http://www.mediafire.com/i/?fsbkhsxjaapx16v”!  I want it to say something that I personally want, say “Click to Download Mario Kart Operation Card” or “Mario Kart Operation Cart – Side 1” or “Click Here To Download”.  Again, simple fix

Click Here To Download Mario Kart Operation Card

Arseen:

I did little edit to the beginning; Added Photobucket and Tinypics to the do not use part.

EDIT:
Added do not use Megaupload to the beginning of the instructions
