I am currently scanning my Mario Clash manual. I hope you don't mind that I have taken the staple out to do it.

 :) No I don't mind at all!!!
Actually I prefer the scans stapless, that way the reasebly is easier.
Will scan my manuals that way too, when I have time.

I was hoping that was the case, Arseen. As a manual nut myself, I always like to find scans that allow me to easily print it out. Sadly, those seem to be few and far between.

Thank you, But unfortunateky your scans have flaws, first is that the derasterization was off (images made if little "flowers")
Second is that the images are partly out of focus, for example on the box front the crabs claw. Put something heavy on the box when scanning, bigger than the box, but make sure that the weighing object rest only on the box not the scanners edges. You don't have to close the scanner bed, instead put thick shirt over to block outside light.

Dang, really? Can you give me an example of the "flowers" thing you are talking about? I don't have the most powerful scanner, and I scanned the images at 600dpi. I see what you mean about the focus issue on the box front. That probably won't be too hard to correct.

Well I think Shenske and BadChad are going to work on the DS case plus I don't have too much free time lately and i have to try and finish up my TG16 polycase template soon.

yes also be sure and save the jpeg file with maximum quality settings. photoshop is really good for saving as jpeg. I usually scan to tiff or some other lossless format then save in photoshop to jpeg. but if you dont have PS sometimes the scanner will come with software but otherwise just do the best you can.

Here:

DOWNLOAD LINK TOO SEE BETTER: http://www.mediafire.com/i/?7hj5o9dobi5dr77

Left is rasterized and right is de-rasterized.

If you zoom-in in MS Paint you can see in rasterized one the "flowers". Best seen in the black areas.
You also see that the that the rasterized image is made of highly visible dots, those are near impossinle to get rid of.

That can easily be fixed with a tool like "edge preserving smooth" or "texture preseving smooth".
Oh didn't know that, though that they were as bad as the flowers.

You lose quality de-rasterizing btw...
I've noticed that, hence 600 DPI scans for edit room.

The Clock Tower scans provided here a few months ago come to my mind.
Yeah that showed really the flowers.

-------------------------------------

So which results better scans, rasterized or de-rasterized, or should both be provided?

OK on the rast / DE-rast.

Nice manual you put up.
Excelent to read, yet just enough "bad" not to make repro manual without further editing.
That is actually good thing, so no-one can just crab the manual and make repros and sell them.

Well of to work now, will be back in 7.5 hours. Will rwad the topics at work but won't post there.

Nice work, vladictivo. I'm glad the scans worked out.

I was tempted as all hell to buy both Galactic Pinball and Red Alarm CIB the other day, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it as I would almost certainly only spend 5 or 10 minutes playing each game.

had to double take on reading that because it sounded at first like you wanted to buy it and knew you would only play for 10 minutes, until I realized that the 10 minutes was you stating why should not buy it.  I think I am at 1,651 games (not duplicates) and hell, I am sure I have only played like.. 400 of them =D
