This past weekend I came across a good deal on unused clear universal game cases by chance at a surplus electronics store in my area that was going out of business. Visually they look identical to the game cases that I have seen pictured on-line from Media Shelving (clear, holds N64, SNES, Genesis, EA, etc.).
I had printed out one of the box covers from this site but the spine and other elements were not matching up. After reviewing my print settings and checking the various posts here it became evident that the boxes I had purchased were not the same spec as the Mediashelving boxes. The spines were 1 1/8" wide not the .98 that I see now, the front and back insert area are 5 1/4" wide rather than 5 1/8", and the insert height is 6 3/4" rather than 7". After some resizing and other adjustments in Photoshop I was able to take the covert art and adjust it to fit pretty well.
Before I go through this effort for my other games though I have some questions for those that have the Mediashelving boxes. The physical height of the cases I purchased are 7 1/8" with the internal box sized 6 3/4" in height. What is the height of the internal box for the Mediashelving boxes? I have read that the game manuals will barely fit within the Mediashelving boxes but I do not have any N64 or SNES manuals to measure this for my cases. When I do get the chance to obtain manuals I would like them to fit.
The cover art here is sized for 7" in height. Is the clear insert that holds the covers on the Mediashelving cases a full 7" in height or do the covers protrude out the top and bottom by 1/8"? I could leave the height of my covers at 7" but I thought they looked better at the same height as the insert holder which is 6 3/4" for my cases.
Thanks for any assistance on this that can be provided. I am debating about whether to march forward with these cases or perhaps use them to box my Atari 2600 collection and order the Mediashelving boxes for my N64 and SNES games.
