I am in an awful situation.  I suffer from severe headaches and cannot stand even the slightest amount of light near my eyes.  The little blue light on the Wii Remote causes me too much pain along with eye sensitivity and I cannot play.  Does anyone have a suggestion on how to cover up or even disable the light?  I currently use a piece of white printer paper to wrap around that section, but it does not keep very well :(

Try using some black hockey tape.

  • Think off-center.
A strip of black electrical tape should be good enough.

Both tips are cool but I was just wondering.

Your eyes get sore from the little blue light of the wiimote but you're ok to actually play games on a big LCD screen with all those flashy effects and stuff?

I think that reducing brightness and contrast helps considerably. And a blue diode can be really annoying even if you're healthy. It's just too bright.

  • ...and that's the bottom line
If it's really the blue diode that's bothering him...don't you usually cover it with your hands when you play?

I'm not making fun of it, if it's a medical condition then I'm sorry for that. It's just the way he describes his sensitivity for light and that it cause him headaches. Yet it's not the games on screen that bother him but the blue light on the Wiimote that's barely seen when playing and if you do see it then from the corner of your eye???

Again, mariocaseman, I'm not trying to make fun of you or belittle that condition. It just sounds so odd the way you describe your predicament.

From experience, I can say that this can be very annoying.

The problem is proximity.  I can have 10 big screen TVs as long as I am far enough away from them.  The Wii Remote is only an arms length away.  And I play games like DKC Returns, NEW SMB Wii, so when holding the remote sideways, it is not covered up.

Duct tape would be your best bet. You can also open the controller up and desolder the blue LED, but I'm not sure how delicate the inside of a Wiimote is. I'd stick with the tape.

You could probably pick up some White Electrical Tape. I'm not sure on how well it will cover up the light, but at least it will blend in a little bit.

I really don't want to do any cosmetic damage to the exterior of the controller.  Does anyone know a way to disable the light?  Maybe a wire I could snip?  I'm also going to look for a white rubber band, if I find a thick one I could wrap that around.

Well, I don't know how to disable it but, you could use a coloured (red or black works) pasteboard and hold it with the silicon case of the Wiimote.

Easiest way would be to cut a small piece of electrical tape to put over the controller lights, the color is your choice. Also some of the controller "skins" cover the light. I think my NES controller skin that I got in Nintendo Power covers it completely if I'm not mistaken.
