Custom more than custom... Does it works?

Hi there,
prior to forgive me for the ugly english of mine [yes, it's not my native language]... Secondly, I don't want to double post, I've put the same post in the FAQ section under "newbies please read this". I just thought it would fit more in this "section"...
That being said: my apologize for what I am about to ask (it might seem pretty dumb but I need to ask it anyways).
Here goes : I do cover arts for myself and it's pretty "custom" (I mean, more than you could actually have here, seriously). It might be nice to post some here [I do them for myself so at least I could make others have benefits of my "so-called-work"] Anyhow, I don't really mind making them public... The question is more about "how far custom can go" and "does it seems ok to you guys" [for instance, I use the super famicom covers because I play almost all my games in japanese but it might not be that hard to put a "super nintendo" logo instead... PLUS, I sometimes use images I find over internet [some are fanarts, but pretty nicely done] and I don't know the artist which it belongs to... so I might have to sustrain posting them... Ok, here are some links to show you what I really mean by custom :
CAPTAIN COMMANDO [there is a load of customizing here... and yes I know it looks pretty USA patriotic on the background] : http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/433/captaincommando.jpg
MEGAMAN X [basic customising] : http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/2990/megamanx.jpg
METROID [image found over the internet] : http://img696.imageshack.us/content_round.php?page=done&l=img696/2010/metroidhj.jpg&via=mupload
RUDORA NO HIHOU [photoshop works - got the title removed] : http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/9980/rudoranohihou.jpg
SEIKEN DENSETSU 2 [Japanese version hell yeah] : http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/1695/seikendensetsu2.jpg
I usually retrace the logos and customize them (the megaman x on is a good example) to fit my taste... I think it is easier for me to redo them instead of searching over the internet to find "the big size and hi-def logo".
Sincerly yours,
Qtipsnorris

Hey, those look really great! It's a minimalist approach to the Super Famicom cover, but if they're custom covers and you like that style then it's great. I really like the Treasure of the Rudras cover, that's the best quality image of that cover that I've ever seen!
I don't think there's a limit to just how custom you make the covers, just as long as you follow the standard sizing/quality guidelines of 300dpi and the correct size, then you should be fine. And if they won't host the covers on the site directly, you can always post them up in the Localized SFC and Repro covers thread: http://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=3494.0
I for one would love to see more of your work. Custom covers are always a lot of fun, it's interesting to see what other people come up with.

Hi Qtipsnorris, and welcome to the site!
There is NO limit as to how custom your cover can be. You seem to have your own style and I like the simplicity of your template. So as long as it is uploaded as a custom cover and meets the general requirements (i.e. highres art, 300dpi minimum, correct dimensions to fit into a UGC) it will be hosted here.
We have a standardized awesome SNES template that we use for pretty much all of our covers here. You may want to have a look at that but this is in NO WAY mandatory. That would be just by courtesy for the people who use our template.
If you're still unsure if you should upload your covers, then make a free account at box.net or mediafire.com. There you can upload your covers, put the link to that directory in your signature and that way whoever wants your cover can download it.
And by the way, I really like your Metroid cover. A custom cover with the art on the back as front cover art would be awesome. We are all looking forward to seeing what covers you show us in the future!

Thanks a lot for the quick answers. In fact, I've got a load of Dreamcast, Playstation 2 and Super Famicom sleeves already done. It's all "minimalist" desing as I prefer it - I don't want replica of boxes since I buy complete games all the time and keep the cardboard away from harm, if I can say so. I just want something to look at (since I know everything I buy - got over 600 titles and played them all - I don't need descriptions or screen shots).
I shall start a new topic and post links of my artworks to begin, and if people tend to comment and give good feedbacks, I am going to start uploading them on site. I just am not confident enough to post them, but your comments make me happy I started posting them. I started the whole sleeves things way before I knew about this site and since then, I've been doing this - Collector's bad abit of mine, I don't want to play with my clean originals... except for retro...
Well then, I shall try to post some of my things and see what will come out of it. It's a pleasure to be a part of this wondeful site.
@djshock : I've had a hard time with this one (rudora no hihou). I own the original game and tried to scan it a hundred times with different techniques. Alas, it always comes out bad and I don't know why. The original picture is pretty whitened and the "moire" effect don't want to go out so I needed to add a little blur out... It took a while to take the title off and the super famicom logo was a real pain to get rid of...
@KAISERwave : The pleasure would be mine. I will try to do something to fit your need. Might be entertaining. Thank you for the greeting, I will do my best to keep it up.
@vladictivo : thank you for the info and thank you for the greetings. Will keep in mind to give proper credit for sure, except if I don't know where the original picture come from though...
