Hi everyone!

It's been some time since I posted the suggestion of creating UGCs covers for our Game & Watchs. I've practicing with Corel Draw creating vectorized logos and the final cover.
The first cover I've made is for the Donkey Kong Multi Screen game. Maybe the cover is quite minimalistic (I based a bit on the original box), so I would like to know your opinions about it. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome (specially for the back cover  ;D).

Thanks! :)

HELL TO THE YES. This is exactly what I was picturing in that thread. This came out looking pretty damn awesome, man!  ;D Copying a horizontal version of the title on the back would probably be best, of course, but filling up the empty space on the front and backs might be a doozie of a challenge. Hmmmm, I'll think about it. This is an awesome starting point though, gotta say!

If you're looking for stuff to fill space on the back, I might recommend checking out this site...

http://www.gameandwatch.com/

Screenshots, a little bit of history and some instructions.

I would ask (however, as I'm not connected with the site, I don't really have a say in this) that you plug the site on the covers... or, at least, write the site and ask if they mind... :D

Yes, of course. Here it is:

@ SonicAdvDX:
Thanks :)

@ UncleBob:
Thanks for the link, I'll take a look.

I think I got an idea: What do you think of creating an image of G&W Donkey Kong holding in his hands the name of the game (instead of a barrel)?

Sorry for the double post but I updated the cover:

I added some reflections on the buttons and made the shadows darker, also I modified the back cover.
Do you think it would be acceptable for being analized by the admins of the site? In that case, what should I do to make them receive it?

Thanks for everything.

The back might still be too empty, but I'd send it to one of the admins over private message and ask for their input. Personally, I think it's badass, and even if it's not approved for use on the site, we could still try to make more and keep this topic alive, because I plan on using them myself.

Really all Id say its missing is a description on the back and thats it. It is a pretty badass cover. I cant see us opening a new category for just one cover but if we happen to get a couple more, I dont see why not.

First, lots of thanks for your opinions guys  :)

The back might still be too empty

You're right, I have just realized I forgot to add a box for the bar code  :P

I agree with you in that a description on the back would be the best for any cover. The problem is that the original boxes I found on Google haven“t got text on the back (normally, they have images of more G&Ws you can collect), and that's why I created that back cover. If anyone could help in this aspect it would be fantastic.
Of course, I understand you are not going to open a new cathegory for just one cover, my idea is to create more, but first, I'm trying to find a model to follow in all the covers.
I see that you find the front cover and the spine ok, so I think that while we decide what to do with the back cover, I can start making the front and spine of other G&Ws  ;D

If you host the template/cover on a file sharing site like box.net or mediafire which doesn't f**k it up we can really check it for quality issues.

Looks pretty neat by the way! :)

For the back text of Donkey kong you could use this from gameandwatch.ch:

Like the arcade Donkey Kong, Mario must climb a building avoiding barrels. But beating the game is different from the original game. Mario must also trigger the lever on the upper screen, activating a hook. Then, Mario needs to jump and catch the hook; If he doesn't catch the hook, he'll fall on the ground and lose a life, and if he does, a peg will be removed and Mario will return to the starting point. Removing all pegs cause the Donkey Kong's platform to collapse, making him fall on the ground.
2 + 3 = 23

  • ...and that's the bottom line
I cant see us opening a new category for just one cover but if we happen to get a couple more, I dont see why not.

Take a look at the PC-FX section, then you can see it :D

If this turns out to be a decent template, and we have a finished cover for it which is approved, then I don't see why we can't open the category even if we have just one game. I mean, you gotta start somewhere. Then it either grows or people won't bother. But at the end of the day it's at least one more quality cover for us :)

Yeah, Linux as well! :D If you make just three more of these covers, we'll also have more than the Wonderswan section, not to mention double the Linux and PC-FX section COMBINED. ;D I definitely say it's worth it's own section under "Handhelds". If this template is approved, and we can keep on getting vectorized images of the machines, I'll definitely be helping you make these covers, no doubt about it!  ;)

I like this idea a lot and just like everyone else I too think it could benefit from some text on the back. When I get my Ball Game & Watch repro from nintendo I'm definitely planning on housing it in a UGC. :)

I'm glad you like it.
Thanks for the site, tiktektak, it's a pity that not all the G&Ws have their description but I'll see what I can do with the info of that site and others I found (like nintendods.com, which has some description about all the G&W games launched for DSiWare). I also see in gameandwatch.ch the dimensions of the G&Ws and all the consoles should fit in an UGC except the Table Top and the horizontal Multi Screen (LifeBoat, for example) models.

What about this?

Could anyone look if there is any mistake in the text, please? Although I copied it from a webpage, it's just to be sure because English isn't my mother tongue.

Many thanks!  :)
