I decided to give this cover making a try.  I have a lot of N64 games that don't have vertical covers made for them yet, so I thought what the heck, I can make them myself.  I downloaded the free trial of photoshop & gave it a try.  Now maybe it's because I've never used photoshop before, but I find this whole process of making covers hard.  It seems like everything I want to do can't be done.  Like if I use the rectangular marquee tool to select an area I want to copy, it has to be a perfect square or else I have to select the part of the picture I want plus extra.  I went of youtube to watch some tutorials, but most of what I saw on there is stuff that I already figured out just by playing around with the program.  So my thought is that maybe someone on here who knows what they are doing could record a video of themselves making a cover & post it on youtube.  That way noob's like me could learn & maybe start contributing to the site instead of just taking.

  • Think off-center.
You have to familiarize yourself with the program before you can begin such an undertaking. Learn the basic tool functions and learn their names and sub-functions. Then look up "photo retouching" tutorials, there are plenty of videos on that and then you'll  be on your way.

I have thought about this quite a few times but the only problem is I don't have any way to go about recording my voice. Would I just have to get some sort of microphone to get my voice recorded?

Also, does anyone know a good program to record my computer screen and be able edit the video? If possible, is there a free program that does all of this?

I have done a few photoshop video tutorials in the past. I wouldn't mind doing this at somepoint.

I have used Screenflow in the past to capture and edit screencasts. Also just using Quicktime X now can record screen and audio, but needs to be edited elsewhere.

I think this idea is great. I'm somehow in the same situation. Still a noob regarding photoshop but with a deep desire to contribute to the project by doing N64 vertical covers.
