PlayStation1 - 8-Disc Poly Case Cover Thread

Like our covers on the site?  A little reluctant to seeing your favorite games that were originally in jewel cases in DVD form?
There are many reasons why people on the site like to convert their favorite games from the jewel cases to DVD cases.  The DVD cases are easier to come by, look nice on the shelf and the covers are easier to create being only one image.  Finding muliti-disc housing cases are also much easier to come by in DVD cases than the jewel cases. DVD cases are also more durable and ..... well you get the idea.

But what about the people who like the original cover art but don't want to see it butchered up and dissected for DVD case use?
There is a solution ...  "8-Disc Poly Cases"  Its a solid DVD like case case with similar deminsions to the original jewel cases. Nice thing is that it shares all the same positive perks are the DVD cases without the need to rework or cut apart the jewel case cover art.  The jewel case art should be an easy transformation to these new ploy cases, the only real work is just cleaning the cover image and creating a spine. I'll make it very easy for you guys when i make the template, it should only take a few minutes to make each new cover if the artwork is already clean.

What the cases look like and where to get them
You are welcome to Google the cases and find your own or you can try the sites that i have found.  Keep in mind that the cases must be the "8-Disc Poly Cases" in order to properly fit the covers in this thread. Do not I repeat DO NOT get the "6-Disc" , "12-Disc" or "24-Disc" versions of the cases as they will not fit the covers on this thread. The other cases are much wider than the "8-Disc Poly Cases."  The following are some stock photos of the cases directly from some of the sites that sell the cases.
     Black

     White

     Clear

Here is an example of what the covers could look like. These images are just Works In Progress and only took 2min a piece to make. After the template is complete it is not unrealistic to think that we can make cover that quickly (as long as the images are already cleaned up of coarse).
..............................new images to be added soon ................................

The case is actually ~15mm but thats pretty close to what I am looking for. I think it would be a good solution since it can hold up to 8 discs (we can put the instruction manual and other goodies in the blank sleeves or just remove them).

As always, opinions welcome!

Shenske, this is an AWESOME find! You think we could use retail jewel game scans to fit into these cases? I would TOTALLY go for that. Usually what I've been doing when I buy a beat up PS1/Dreamcast game, for example, is I'd buy a bunch of Memorex's empty jewel cases, disassemble the both of them and put the game's guts into the new jewel case, and they always come out looking brand new. The only thing is, I can only find them in small quantities and they're a little expensive.

This would be a killer alternative, though! They even look like they'd have enough space to fit all of the goodies from Lunar (PS1). Do we already have a template made up for cases like this?

Yes, that is the plan. The simplest covers to make that way!  ;D

Do we already have a template made up for cases like this?

If there is enough interest it would be pretty easy for me to convert my jewel case Dreamcast template over.
PS1 would also be very easy too  :)

Awesome. Just awesome. I never wanted to put my jewel case games in a DVD box. Something about it just didn't feel right. But this is an excellent idea, I'm behind you 100% on this one.

I was looking on the site for the cases i just linked and it said the dimensions were 6" X 5.5" X .625". That is Height x Width x Spine correct?  It doesn't look like its taller than it is wide, huh?

Ahah! Getting warmer! They have options to order in increments of 10 or 50 so this will probably be  the best option for everyone. This will make it ~ $0.50 per case  ;D

EDIT:
I just ordered 100 of the black cases. I'll make a template as soon as i get the cases  ;D

EDIT #2:
I am so stoked to get these cases, i'm going to fire through so many covers!!! PS1 & Dreamcast fans rejoice!!! (actually these would be great for just about every disc based game prior to 2000. Turbo Grafx, CDi, J-Saturn games  ;D)

I just had a good look at what holds the games in place. it looks like the same material used in sleeves that leaves this nasty smudge on the side of the disk. A real nasty one that I still cant get out. Sometimes it affects play, and sometimes its effects are not apparent.

Loving this - if you could incorporate the EU and JPN PS1 and DC templates into your updated templates that would make me a very happy chappy.

The template will likely not come for a few days after that ... on my next day off perhaps. Maybe Sunday or Monday?  I switched stores this past week with a promotion so i have to wait for the schedule to be made at both stores before i know what day i'll have off.

EDIT:
This will be the new thread for covers using the 8 disc poly case. I'll clean up the beginning post when i get my cases and some covers made up.

Now that people are behind this I'm really tempted to do so myself! Also, am I the only one that has a million jewel cases lying around? The only reason I chose DVD cases was that there were no inlays/manuals to worry about ;)

I might have one of these around actually, if I can find it. Mine's green and about 2-3 DVD cases thick IIRC
