A real collector always has quality and quantity.

These are two things which can't be divided if you've got a real collection.

There were so many game systems and so many games for them that even if you collect just the good ones you'll end up with tons of games!

I have 2053 games on around 35 systems in my collection at the moment and not one of those is complete rubbish at least to me.

So kinda both if you are a collector and quality if you are a gamer!

I like this post a lot. I have like 1/10 of the collection you do but I have the same philosophy.

I only collect games I actually like. Anything I aquire that I feel doesnt deserve the space it takes up on my shelf, I get rid of it. And Im sitting at around 700 games now.

I'm with Tik on this one. If you call yourself a collector you inevitably end up with less than stellar games. I think my gems of my collection outshine the "bad" titles completely though. Also, I have a bunch of games people would classify as "bad" games but to me they have different worth. I absolutely love my American Gladiators for SNES because it was one of the only games we had growing up for the system. I played it for hours then and I could play it for hours now.

I also have games in my collection that I don't necessarily like but I have respect for the series. I don't really play RPGs but I have Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior/Quest and other Squeenix games. Are those "bad" games in my collection because I don't play them? Far from it

I have games of all sorts and I have a justification for owning all 830+ of them!

A little bit from both.

While I was growing up my Dad banned games from our house after he wound up playing Ghouls 'n Ghosts for 24 hours straight.
I wasn't able to get back into video games until last Generation and since then I just pick up whatever I can of the old school stuff that I find at Goodwill and Pawn Shops, most of it is really good stuff but there is some junk in there too.

I will go out of my way to buy quality old school titles on eBay, when I do that I'm very picky to make sure the game is complete and in pretty decent condition.

  • ...and that's the bottom line
Quality for me.
I don't own a single game that I don't want or just have because it was part of a lot. I usually buy games individually anyway.  That is not to say that there aren't any shitty games in my collection :) Like Shenske , when I say quality I mean games that I  think are great and worth owning and playing. I only have a slightly above average collection of games (512) but I can say that all of them were bought because I wanted to play them. With that said, +1 for quality from me :)

I go for quality. Why get a game that you would never play? Sure, you can spend a buck a piece to get all the old sports game, but I'd rather spend $10 bucks a piece getting games that I've wanted to play.

I usually buy the sports games for cart parts, like if I buy a game I want and the cart itself is damaged to no end like; holes, chips, discoloration, etc. I like to use the sports carts to restore the damaged cart.

I to use sports carts for spare parts! im a little of both, being that some games i enjoy for sentimental value, most seems to think are garbage! and i also own multiples of games i really like!

I'll have to say quality too, though I do intend to buy every Mega Man title I can, which may be perceived as quantity. Mega Man's my obsession, so to me it's still about quality.

I've rarely sold a game, and if I did so, I had to really hate the game, or at least lose all interest. Either that or it was a duplicate. I think I've sold back 5-7 games (leaving me with roughly 200+), and they were all more recent titles (DS and Wii titles).

Quality.  Who cares if you own 1000 crap games. Wouldn't you rather 100 great ones?

This.

If you could choose between 1 great, 10 good or 40 mediogre games which would you choose. the price of each lot would be the same.

Mind you, that your not allowed to sell them to buy more good games.

I'd choose the 40 games.
