I really hate this Eco case crap ... IMO it is more about saving weight on the boat from China then it is about the enviroment....

less weight means less fuel to transport which is better for the environment.

less plastic, means less emissions in production which is better for the environment.

needs the whole industry to buy in or it's pointless.  i worked for a wine company which tried to move to lightweight glass on a number of lines - the bottles felt cheaper and sales plumetted.  all very well being ground breaking and trying to be green, but not sustainable as a business if product looks/feels cheap and sales suffer.  at least if they do it from the start with these cases, people wont complain about any change later on.

I can guarantee you that any major corporation's "eco efforts" are more about profit than a genuine interest in the environment.

Sheep is right though. Less plastic is always a good thing actually cause plastic is one of the worst things considering environment friendliness.

Still apple is right too. The companies may marketing it as green cases but their true intentions are far from being ECO.

If you combine both it is good for our environment after all no matter what the intentions were. ;)

I still would like it better if the cases just were thinner....

Nope not that. DS cases are pretty slim after all especially US ones.

I meant that the thickness of the plastic could be reduced but NO holes!

Meeeeeh, I really don't like these eco cases everyone's doing now. But, whatever, let's save the planet, right?

The slimmer spine is kinda nice, though. But, then again, we might not be getting these exact same boxes, anyway.

I've had the...pleasure? I suppose, of working a few warehouse jobs over the past few years, unloading containers fresh off the boat from China.

You're 100% right. You would not believe the packaging inefficiencies and all the waste. There would usually be a part of the warehouse dedicated to opening the boxes and putting the contents into MORE boxes than they originally shipped in, and recycling the cardboard it was sent in. While yes, you are recycling the cardboard...it's still a waste.

Also, plastic wrap for years.

I think i actually like this MORE than the HUGE holes on dvd/PS3/360/Wii eco cases.

More small holes seems safer to me than a few big ones

I agree Mick. What puzzles me the most is why the holes are where the disc goes (the whole idea of the case is to PROTECT the disc). The holes should be above and below the disc holder area. Who thought of that design, and how did it ever get approved?

They should have stopped here. I can live with these (both are Viva eco-boxes).

They're not saving anything when you see people post on forums that they buy replacement cases with no holes and then throw the eco ones away. But then that brings us back around to them just doing it for profit like AppleQueso said (how great is it to get the original packaging sale to the disc manufacturer and replacement sale to the consumer?).

I think eco-friendly cases are less of an issue for cartridge based systems like the 3DS as carts can stand up to more abuse to begin with. When I bought Metroid: Other M, I was taken aback by how terrible the case design was that I replaced the case with the case that came with The Conduit, a game I'm not playing anymore. Eco friendly cases are fine, but the wagon wheel design is terrible.

I doubt it but maybe we can be the first site to host the covers! If not, at least the first to have a full template for it  ;D
