just to chime in, it's probably because using the wiki for requests doesn't seem like such a great idea for most of us. There's no way to be notified when a new request pops up, for example. The forum system has worked really well up until now...

I agree with AppleQueso, i much prefer the forum system of requesting overbite wiki. I don't get what was so wrong with the forum requesting that it was decided to basically be scrapped.

Would it be possible to separate the subforum of requests out of the normal forum activity on the front page and give it it's own space? I mean if we were to have "most recent topics" like we already have and "most recent forum requests in a separate section right below it? Just a thought

The last time I looked at the wiki was that day whoever stated it was working again.  The problem is is that the wiki is not the main site.  I don't want to travel to a 3rd party site to request something that I want done here.  That seems retarded.

Why do the retail cover HAVE to be placed inside the Wiki, but yet custom covers are completely fine here?  I support Shenske's thought on having two news threads with one only showing the request forum.  Might as well ban me because I'm going to forget in three minutes that I will have to post in the Wiki and not the site for another request.  Seems counter productive.  Everyone comes to the site, and not "Oh let's check out the requests on the Wiki. *Scrolling and looking, Scrolling and looking, Scrolling and looking ** Completely missing the new requests because there is no indication that anything was added ** Scrolling and looking, Scrolling and looking*. Nothing new, on to the site."

I guess a new rule change should be that everything dealing with covers should be moved to the Wiki.  I mean, THEN we will stop requesting here if you want to use a completely different site...  Which again, seems and sounds retarded.  If I want a cover created, I ask my fellow friends here at TheCoverProject... not some Wiki page...

I don't mind how it's decided in the end to do the requests. The only thing about the wiki is no one knows who requested the titles. I listed my only request in there early on and put my name at the end in parenthesis (because that looked like the proper way in the example). Since then, when I've found raws to scan, I didn't know who to contact and there's no request thread for me to post in so the artists can see there's now a scan they can use. I've been thinking of (when uploads are back) placing "cover requested in the wiki" after the game title when I upload a batch of new raw scans. Or a new thread in the Raw Scans Forum entitled "New Wiki Raw Scans". Then anyone who uploads a raw requested in the wiki can post in that thread and they'll all be there together.

Trying to understand public opinion here. Tiktektak agrees with me; we think a wiki list of retail requests (scans / full covers) is preferable to a request forum. Shenske and AppleQueso, perhaps among others, disagree. Seems like the main reason is it is easier to track new requests through the forums than through the wiki. Are there other reasons?

I personally never visit the wiki. Either I scan a new game I have because it's not on the site, or I scan something because someone asks for it. We don't have a direct link to it on the left side of the site either, so new users can't even access it. I'd like to see a grid of games we need scans for. In the case of PS1/DC games, we can have a separate box checked off for DVD custom and jewel case scans. I just want a page I can ctrl-F when I buy a new game.

I personally barely go to the wiki. I actually forgot it was there entirely until you posted the other thread. It's also pretty discouraging to see that so many of the guys that actually make covers don't really pay attention to it either. I agree with comments shenske mentioned in the other thread about convenience. Other than those things there really is nothing else I have against it.

Actually a US citizen, but the US playstation id's look like crap :(

  • Think off-center.
I was lurking for a while before i became a member and even after i became a member i have only visited the wiki a grand total of maybe 3x tops (and 1 was just recently after seeing the first post about this). Although I do agree with the structure of the wiki-requesting. If only there was a way to say... integrate the 2 creatively somehow? And just out of curiosity how often is the wiki updated?

ya.. i dont think the wiki is the best way. I just gave it a shot though. I threw a request for Front Mission for the DS up there. I bought it used at gamestop and unfortunately couldn't get the sticker it had on the label off without damaging it =( i need to get a replacement cover for it. I got too much OCD about these things to leave it as it is

As mentioned about the Wiki doesn't let you post your name with the request and theres no real way to follow up or check on it

Or a new thread in the Raw Scans Forum entitled "New Wiki Raw Scans". Then anyone who uploads a raw requested in the wiki can post in that thread and they'll all be there together.

I was just about to suggest this two prong approach.

Except then it'd completely negate the existance of the wiki. Why check the wiki when the thread is right there?

Wiki-requesting puts your request entirely at the mercy of whoever just happens to check it regularly and notices a new entry. What was the rationale for the wiki being preferable to the forum anyhow? I honestly can't think of any useful advantages other than having a list for the sake of having a list. The big request experiment thread we had before didn't work very well either for similar reasons.

Having a forum with some friendly guidelines for topic formatting has worked fine for everything before, and doesn't require any extra layer of management (such as maintaining a giant list) to work.

Forum would notify of new requests, Wiki would keep log of all standing requests and availability of raws so you don't have to keep backtracking long topics.
