the cover posting issue....

I understand that Snowcone hasn't got much time to post the uploaded covers to their appropriate sections and I know that letting too many people do that will result in chaos BUT as it stands now there are hundreds of fabulous covers waiting to get into their sections and noone but a few people have the rights to see them or use them....
I know that if a request is made one of the kind persons here(gurus, Admin) gives it to the guy asking for it real fast but it would be sooooooo cool to have them all up and running in their sections....

How about letting someone help post the covers? I know something is made up behind the scenes but when will "it" be real? I may sound like a little crying baby right now but it's just for the sake of organization! I for example wanted to look which dreamcast covers are needed today but there are only a few posted and I believe there are many many many in the aether.... So I don't know.... As for original style Cd covers for dreamcast I've only found 5 or 6 maybe... Is that all which was uploaded? I know there are some raws but what about more Cd covers allready finished? There have to be some more I believe.....

Ok enough talking let's do some action.... I would gladly volunteer if I'm "worthy" to help out putting the appropriate covers in the right sections.... Is it even possible for me to help out or is it too complicated?

Something IS being done Snowcone is working overtime to give the gurus and maybe some of the "older" regular members the rights to add covers. It's a programming issue and I don't know jack about programming but seeing what he has already done with the site I suppose it's one of the harder problems to solve. I know that doesn't help but have a little patience, this issue is adressed and he's working on it right now. I can't wait for the new covers to show up myself but one has to take into consideration that this site is not his fulltime job. He does this in his "spare time" and with the amount of covers already uploaded to the ftp it's hard for just one man to keep up. He knows that and this is why he puts all his effort into this issue right now!

As for DC covers, there's 22 covers on the ftp right now. 10 DVD style covers and 12 CD style covers plus the covers TheValeman did from my raw scans and scans he found on the net.

As for the statement that only a few people have access to uploaded covers, I know it's furstrating that for example I (and the other cover gurus) can access all uploaded covers and you can't. But it's not arbitrariness. All the cover gurus were part of the project on the CAG boards long before THIS site spawned due to the size of the project. So i think it's a matter of trust. I'd say the longer you're a member here the more likely it is for you to become covers guru. It just takes time

Unfortunately the Kraut KaiserWAVE is correct. Snowcone is trying to get something set up so additional people can add covers to the download sections. He once did give access to the FTP site, but unfortunately someone abused it and uploaded some malicious scripts.... so, that had to end.
Right now, he is trying to work out a solutions that will allow the covers to be added and keep the security of the site.
I am not a programmer either, so I am not sure what is involved in doing this.
Fear not, there are plenty of 'volunteers', but the actual programming has to be worked out.

Right now I am just trying to figure out how to let you guys move covers over to the real cover location. The rest of the admin portion of the site is just about ready.

how about creating a system similar to wikipedia where the site asks for email and allows the creator of the cover to upload the covers they make but prevent them from uploading anyone elses? That way, if anyone abuses it, its easily traceable and that person can be banned quickly and without mess? Everyone here just wants to see their own covers uploaded and I think that if we could post our own materials without the long waiting time people would be inclinded to post more.

I'm wrapping up this current system and while that may be a necessary thing in the future, it eliminates the step of screening for quality which is what sets us apart from the rest. I will keep that in mind moving forward though. You should notice that I am posting covers as I test new tweaks to the admin code.

I really appreciate the hard effort everyone is putting into this project and really didn't want to offend anyone!

I understand that access to the "heart of the site"(ftp) isn't an easy thing to give away and I'd never think I'm good enough known to have any kind of right to get access!!!! It's just that I wanted to help!

I know that something is coming and I'm eager to see what it is.... 

THANKS again for all the hard coding work! I know that programming isn't too much fun(at least I didn't like it at university)!

Those are the 4 people I am having test out the system and that have access to posting content. Hopefully between the 5 of us we can keep things moving for now. In the near future I will be promoting a few more of the Gurus up to help out as well.
