We have discussed the topic before but never came to a concrete consensus.

If Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre were licensed games (maybe not by Atari but if their creators were legally allowed to manufacture the games based on the movies) and were released then i believe we should be able to host them.

The Adult themed stuff ... my opinion: no place on the site  :(

As far as the extra attention the atari section is getting that is because i just recently bought a "Sears" Telegame machine and an Atari 2600 Jr.  These are going to be the next covers i'll be making in that template ...

Adventure
Asteroids
Berzerk
Breakout
Centipede
Circus Atari
Combat
Defender
Donkey Kong
Football
Frogger
Galaxian
Jr. Pac-Man
Kangaroo
Laser Blast
Mario Bros.
Missile Command
Ms. Pac-Man
Pac-Man
Pitfall!
Pole Position
Space Invaders
Super Breakout
Superman
SwordQuest - EarthWorld
Yars' Revenge

We'll have to see if i'm still on the Atari fix after completing this list. Either way i'll be releasing the template for everyone to make covers with.

From what I understand, Wizard (the people who made Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre on the 2600) were legally allowed to make the games, mainly because they owned the home release (Wizard-Vestron Video), through some weird clause in their contract, they were allowed to expand the franchise to a different medium as a result.

Zelimpdna:

I've made an E.T. cover for myself using the Silver International style Atari box.

Here's a preview.

Still needs some polishing before it'll be ready. And I just realised I haven't yet changed the title on the front and back to white.

nice work on the E.T. cover  :)

I can understand why the adult themed stuff wouldn't be hosted, but in the case of Halloween/Texas Chainsaw Massacre, there probably should be more debate among the administrators to see if these two games can be hosted on the site.

The debate about unlicensed material is valid, however we do know for a fact that these two games could be purchased at the stores, the were just behind the counters. And you know in retrospect we would view that kind of behavior as rather odd, given all that we have now in video games and popular culture.

So perhaps even if we don't get hosting of this material, do you think someone could try their hands at those covers anyway, even if they aren't hosted? I'd like to see what they would look like, just out of curiosity,

Thanks guys.

Alex Philip:

I like these new atari covers but there's a mistake on all  of 'em, it says "you joystick" instead of "your joystick, just wanted to point it out before we make too many of these.
