Hey, I tried searching for a thread on this, but I couldn't find one, so...

New DS game cases no longer have the GBA slot.

This is obviously going to be a problem for people using them for GBA, GB, etc. cases. There's no telling when Nintendo's web store will switch over to these, and they probably won't do anything to indicate that change over.

Well we still haven't got these eco-cases for any system in Australia, so I doubt we'll be getting this one either. Presumably they'll just stick with the old cases, rather than make new non-eco ones that don't have the GBA slot.

Not that that really helps anyone, since Nintendo Australia don't sell cases like the US site.

Ugh.
At least it's not like disc-based games, where there's giant, gaping holes where my disc should be protected.

Guess I know what I'm ordering on my next pay check...

yeah guess i might as well stock up as well. I already  have 20 but hey you never know when you need 'em.

Perhaps though we should look into potential alternatives for a universal portable system case? Half height DVD cases maybe?

EDIT: well I suppose some of us could adopt that cardboard method that was mentioned on here somewhere for these new DS cases

I care about the environment, but I have to say I freaken HATE these eco-cases.

They feel so cheap and I have accidentally put my finger through one of the covers. Seriously these boxes are to protect our games, why to they feel the need to cheapen them... There are so many other ways they could go if they want to make eco-friendly cases, one being switching to smaller blu-ray size cases.

Ugh, I saw this coming but it still sucks. I imagine there's a cheapo alternative though. Doesn't Gamestop sell something like this?

at worst if you have lots of DS games, you can order some of those new DS case and put your DS games in those and use your old DS case for GBA games

I was worried at first, but this is a brilliant idea. Very nice!

and besides all that, nintendo's bound to still have a TON of stock of them. How long did it take them to finally run out of gamecube cases again? They certainly aren't going to destroy what they already have, that's for sure. Plus with the 3DS coming around the corner they may just go with a different case style altogether and never actually sell the eco-cases.

As long as the description on the website still says this:

Quote
This is the standard case that Nintendo DS games come in. This case will hold one Nintendo DS game card and/or one Game Boy Advance game pak.

we'll be in good shape I think. At least for another year or two.

Finally, my copy of Mario vs. DK came in today.  It's in the eco-pack.  I really don't mind it like I do with the disc-based games - except for the lack of a GBA slot.  The game coming in reminded me to place an order of 30.  Hopefully, the ones that come in will have the GBA slot.

I really don't have the cash for new DS cases at the moment, but at this point I imagine I'll be buying a lot of old DS games on the cheap come the 3DS. Then I can swap around all my cases with the eco cases so every GBA game has a home. :D

I just ordered a batch of 50 cases yesterday to be on the safe side incase they do discontinue the original cases. Of course they cancelled my order because the didnt think they were for personal use so I had to call them and explain. Now I have to wait for a call back from Admin.

If anyone plans on ordering anything over 50 cases it might be wise to place your order over the phone to save youself some time.

I've never had any luck ordering more than 50 at a time.  Via phone, or pleading e-mail.  Seems the trick is to order less than five of an item, then waiting a few months and ordering again.  If you ever order 5, they seem to flag the account or something.
