Is there a standard for Sega Cd / Mega Cd covers I was asking myself today?
Because I'd like to start collecting Sega/Mega Cd games as well but yet have to decide in which case to put those....

As far as I know some games(the ones I have) are in normal double jewel cases.... But other ones are in a kind of slimline Cd/DVD Box which was also used for sega saturn and some PS2 games???? Is that right?

So what would be better you think? Jewel cases or normal slimline DVD cases or standard dvd cases or those special Sega Cd/Sega Saturn cases?

  • ...and that's the bottom line
If you want to put them in cases other than their original cases I guess it all boils down the the question what YOU like best. I mean, ask 4 people on this board on a possible standard and you'll get 4 different answers :) Some prefer original cases even if they don't match, some go for DVD covers or whatsoever.

The PAL Mega CD games where in a Double CD Jewel Case.

The NTSC Sega CD games where in a custom Jewel Case made from the clear plastic similar to the Mega CD jewel case lids.  They where about the same width, but about 2 times as high and half as thick.  All Sega CD games had much better covers and graphics on a cool sky blue/mid blue striping.

A DVD case is the best match for Sega CD.  A double CD Jewel Case is an exact match or Mega CD. I personally would look a blueray cases with Sega CD Blue Stripes covers for the best look.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your replies....

As I finally decided yesterday(after quite some thinking about this) that I'd stay as close as possible to original casing for all of my game collections I think I'll do the following....

For my PAL Mega Cd games I'll get some double jewel cases... Question. Does anyone know if they were special or just normal double jewel cases?

For my NTSC Sega Cd games I'll buy some original Sega Cd cases(if they don't come with the bought game) on ebay... I suppose those are the right ones am I right?

Here you go.  You are looking for the "Chubby" double CD Jewel Case.

You should be able to get these in Austria or a neighbouring country.
