Well, I'm hoping that the third times the charm when it comes to my attempt at creating a custom cover series.
Between Dropdox (great tool), an external HDD and 2 internal HDD's I'm hoping my .psd's are safe this go around!

Templates can be downloaded here
- PS1
- PS2
- PS3

Anyway, I'm personally a big fan of the latest PS3 logo and it's horizontal bar, so I set out to create a similiar/matching template based on that.
I've come up with the following templates (all based on DVD Case dimensions so I've got some more spine matching):
- PS1 / PSX*
- PS2
- PS3

I've tweaked color on the bottom of the horizontal bar to reflect the colors on the PS controllers -- and I'm currently debating if I want to use the pink on PSP cases, of if I'll leave it the yellow that's on the cases currently; thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

And now for a preview of the templates:

PS1

PS2

PS3

Example of All Spines Together (PSP Case would be in the normal PSP case and thus a little shorter, but for the pics I tossed it onto a dvd case)

Example of Spines & Horizontal Bars

Comments and thoughts would be greatly appreciated and if anyone's interested I can send you the .psds.

* PSX\PS1, I've always referred to my original PlayStation as a PSX and that's not going to change anytime soon... but yes I am aware that Sony did release an actual PSX in Japan, which could lead to some confusion and some people may not like it. I did try and make a PS1 logo, but I wasn't happy with any of the results.
So I had an idea on how to get a PS1 logo to work, so I went and tried the idea out and I think the logo actually turned out decent, so on the PS1 case I've got both the PS1 and PSX logos.

PSX (Based on the comments already in this thread I figure I'll stick with the PS1 logo I created, but still keeping this preview here, but moved further down to try and avoid additional confusion)

So I had an idea on how to possibly get the a PS1 logo to work... which didn't turn out too bad I suppose.

Logos

I've updated the initial post to include an example with the PS1 logo (but the spine/header&spine shots I left as they were)

Debating if I want to remove the feature icons from the PS1/PSX case and go to a style which matches the style used on PS2 and the PS3 case --- Text inside a box, though I'm leaning more towards leaving it as is, as I really like those icons.

I still don't understand why people insist on calling the PS1 the "PSX". The PSX was a PS2 with a built in HD and DVR. Other than backwards compatibility with the PS1 (as a standard PS2), the PSX has nothing to do with the PS1.
If you have nothing to do... Don't do it here!

Well the PSX was the codename for the console before it came out. I do agree with you though, once the real PSX came out i have never and will never before to the original playstation as the psx.  Best to avoid confusion  :)

Gonna have to agreed that using PSX instead of PS1 could indeed confuse people as it got me confused for a sec.

I do like the matching cases tho.

Leading up to the original Playstation's release, I'd always seen it referred to as the PSX, and I only noticed it being referred to as the PS1 once the PS2 came out. It is a bit presumptuous after all to call a console the PS1 when there's no guarantee of success or a future PS2.

As the PSX was a Japanese-only release [and wasn't even sold with a controller], I have no problem still referring to the original Playstation as the PSX. The PS1, for me, refers to the slim Playstation, which was branded PS One.

Similarly with Atari. I still refer to the Atari 2600 as the VCS [Video Computer System], which was its name until the 5200 came out.

It would perhaps be different if the PSX had exclusive PSX-only games, as then there would be a need for distinction. But it just plays Playstation and Playstation 2 games, so there really is no possible way for there to be confusion when referring to games.

All I have to say is the "X" doesnt look like it fits. I think it should be rounded to be more similar to the "PS" font.

I think a rounded X would look really weird.  The other characters are rounded at points where it would normally be rounded in any font style.

Well finally got some time tonight to work on this again (been a crazy week at work and it was actually nice to just zone out while playing in PS).

Moved the feature items up to the horizontal bar at the top, wasn't initially sure how well I'd like the idea but after seeing a printed cover I really liked the look.
Was also a little nervous moving them up there at first, since space is rather limited, but once I looked at my games, none of them have all of the feature options, so space wasn't an issue any longer.

EVERYONE called the original Playstation the "psx" all the way until at least the ps2's announcement. I remember this pretty vividly.

Sorry for the delay, work has been brutal the last few weeks (58+ hours last week and this week isn't shaping up to be any better). No time to sit down and fire up photoshop...

While I tinker and tweak with my box.net account, for now here's direct links:
- PS1
- PS2
- PS3

And for those who prefer mediafire...

And with a layout I like finally firmly set I was able to finally (oh within the last 15 minutes) come up with a layout for the back which I'm really liking for my custom-FF covers.

(I'll eventually get a preview of the back, I'm going with a very simplistic approach, but I think they'll look really nice all lined up in a row together -- though it just occurred to me that i'll now need to re-do all of my PlayStation games)

Not to sound begging, but could you adapt the PS1 and PS2 versions for a slimline case? It would be much appreciated.

Do you know what size the spine would be for a slimline case? I haven't done any slim cases before, but I can give it a try (hopefully this weekend).

Sorry for the slow response too, was in Australia over Thanksgiving and then between work and the holidays it's been.... pure chaos, but 2011 is looking like work should go back to normal hours :D
