I was inspired by the "Steam covers" thread to make my own "improved" Steam backup template.

I started off with the PC game template and the end result is a 30mb .psd.

Please don't re-release it. I'd love to see anything you do with it though.

Feedback please. This was my second ever cover.

I don't like the logo on the bottom of the spine. The PC DVD ROM logo in the top right seems silly. Same with the Valve logo. I don't understand what the player icons mean. I don't know how well those fine lines will print.

The player icons are for Single Player or Multiplayer (in this case, both). Hiding either layer shows a dark grayed out version underneath. I agree with the top right logos looking silly, I think it'd look much better if I moved the Valve logo to the far right and got rid of the DVD one.

As for the spine, I like it. There's nothing wrong with being a bit unique, one problem I often find with this site is that every template has roughly the same layout.

I actually like this template a bit. I'm not much of one for making case for my download distribution (Steam, GOG, indie, etc.) games, but this is pretty nice. It just feels a little empty on the front and back. I'm guessing it is supposed to have that same look as the Steam application? Though maybe a few screenshots on the back, and if the image on the front went down a little further might help.

yeah i feel the same, too empty and screen shots would rock.  why not make the image on the front fit the whole front and use the font from unreal for the title?

Video games have ruined my life.....good thing i have 2 more lives :D

Because there are a lot of Steam games and I thought it'd be better if they all had the same style, like branded game re-releases. (Sold-Out, Xbox Classics, Xplosiv etc)

And I agree with not having cases for digital distribution, but being as Steam generates backups which can be burned directly to a CD, why pass up the chance to fill your shelves with some shiny photoshop goodness?

I think it's pointless to replace the lovely SNES/N64 cardboard boxes with plastic cases, no matter how knackered they may be. Each to their own, I guess. Anyway, I mainly made this cover to my liking, it wasn't originally going to be released to the public.

I like the spine/banners you put together for the templaye, love the tight lined grey.. but I agree with everybody else - it needs a bigger front image and a better layout for screenshots/text/legal on the back cover...

that and maybe move the PC DVD/CD to the spine and scoot the valve logo over to the right edge?
