I thought a lot about this and finally came to the conclusion that it would be rather the right thing to keep
the dreamcast games in it's original boxes... This means I'll start scanning all the boxes I have and I'll get(not many now but will get more and more)....
Now the reason I'm spitting this around is that I want to confirm what is needed...

I suppose:

The front cover(300dpi)
The back cover(300dpi)

Is the Cd itself needed too? Do you want manuals as well?

Look in the DC raw scans, I've scanned all my games and uploaded them. Scan the CDs aswell and TheValeman will be your best friend ;)

Hey ... are you saying I'm the only one wanting original case art?  ;D

Yeah ... scan everything at 300dpi .... just leave space on the outside of the case so I can align and crop correctly. SOMEONE put their cases on the edge of the scanner ... or left the "let the scanner do all the work" option on ... and his have cropped spines as a result. Meaning I have to try and correct them.

And manuals too ...I can pdf them into a format consistent with the quality of the N64 ones I've submitted. I just ain't interested in DVD cases for anything other than the games they were created for.

Not only TheValeman, but I would appreciate this as well. I just recently got my dreamcast and am beginning to get games. My plan is to scan the original game art (back cover - Inlay - front cover - disc - manual - all at 300 dpi.)
I am also in the process of doing the same for my PS1 games. We are also doing this for the N64 games for that matter.

This actually serves 2 purposes.
1. People like TheValeman and myself who want original artwork can download it.
2. People who want to create DVD covers can download the originals, create DVD or custom covers and upload those covers.

I have already downloaded some of the dreamcast dvd covers and cut/resized them to fit the thin dvd cases, I am still undecided if I like that or not. Although I like them better than the full sized dvd cases as they take up less room.

This gives everyone more choices.

As I said I concluded that everything should stay in it's original form...
I gave custom covers for DC a shot tried to make one myself but didn't like it too much. Maybe because I didn't manage to produce a custom cover which I liked.  ;)

So noone's alone anymore we're at least two(sorry wshbrngr) three people now....  ;D

As we speak of original cases. Does anyone happen to know where I can get replacement boxes for my dreamcast games?
I did find some on ebay but they are pretty expensive....

Replacement boxes for PAL DC games aren't available anywhere :( Your best bet is to buy used game off eBay. Chu Chu rocket is about the cheapest game you can get, it's usually 3€ with shipping, other games are cheap aswell. You might end up with games you don't want but at least you have your replacement cases.

TheValeman's solution for the PAL case problem was/is to convert his wide cases to a normal CD case (U.S. DC games came in these). He also states that later PAL games also came in these thinner cases.
I am not totally against changing cases, my objection to putting my DC/PS1 games in DVD cases is that they would take up way more room than I have. Almost all my PS1 games (100+) are already in original cases w/artwork and manuals. (too much work to change them over)

About 1/2+ of my dreamcast games are disc only. If I went the DVD route, I would go with the thin-DVD cases because they are about the same thickness as CD cases. But I am not sure there is an advantage of that over CD cases.

I think TheValeman's conversion from his and my wide PAL cases to normal CD cases is the best solution for everybody. Replacement cases for PAL DC games are only available through buying used DC games whereas CD cases come cheap and in bulk. So with the conversion at least the design of the PAL games remains the same, only difference ist the thinner spine. But I must say wshbrngr's thin-DVD solution is a very good alternative. If I didn't like the PAL cases so much better than the US and JPN cases I'd go that route to make my PAL cases match my US and JPN import cases :)

If it is a one-time investment it might be good. But 20€ (~$26 for all non-European readers :) ) for 6 cases? you can easily buy more than 6 games for 20€ ;)

Yeah you're both right kaiserwave and valeman! The big problem is with shipping and handling costs the price will be 30 Euro all in all and this for just 6!!! genuine cases!!!!! That's way too expensive!
I'll do it the way you suggested! Buying some sports and other not interesting games is the best thing to do I think!
I don't want to convert them to cd cases because as I said earlier my decision was made to keep it as real as possible! :)

Regards Seb

EDIT: Another thing! If I get some of those sports games would the covers be worth posting on coverproject? I mean are they wanted or should I just throw them away?

Always post or at least scan them before you throw them away...

You never know who might need them.   ;D

Never never throw original covers away.

Advertise on the forum that you have them and someone may want them. Or post them to me even  ;D
