Are you sure that gold cart really only for pre-orders only, and it wasn't just the early-production carts that were all gold? I actually find it harder to find grey carts, because EVERYBODY has the gold one!
If it was just for pre-orders then, damn... That game had a TON of pre-orders.
I suppose it could have just been for the first production wave, but I had a few friends who didn't pre-order (and it seemed like OoT was sold out
everywhere on the first day, least up in Minnesota it was) and ended up getting it either late during the first week, or in the second week it was released and they got the gray ones.
