That holds firm in my line of work where that's exactly what I do get paid to make logos and drafts.
That's not to say we can't help with suggestions

I say go for a logo with no background, it won't transfer well if you want to use it every where (i.e. Inserting it in videos, t-shirts, hats etc etc.)
pick a good color scheme. And use about 3-5 colors max and don't use none of that blur shit or crazy fx
