i hook mine up, play, when i want to switch, it goes back in it's box, onto the plastic etagere and then the other one gets hooked up. I even trained my son, who would want to play one system, then a different one, then...smack! one system at a time!
so, BOTH
(but Sega Genesis is my fave)

ummm ... how is it any more of a fire hazard than having a computer + monitor + printer + speakers all plugged in at once? It's not like anyone's saying to daisy chain power strips ... which is the only time it is ever really a fire hazard. It's actually better than plugging them strait into the wall so ... (I may not personally know too much on the mater, but my dad's never complained about it and he's a Fire Lieutenant over here).

Yeah, the only time having a ton of devices like that would be any kind of fire hazard would be if you were plugging in extremely high power things like vaccums or space heaters or toaster ovens.

I'll need to get another input box if I get both, in which case I could probably try to make even more room on my stand and get more consoles. But then I'd also need to buy another power strip because mine around about full. I need more than just three outlets in my room! Two of them aren't even anywhere near where my TV stand will fit.

take a look in the hardware section of wal-mart (or wherever you go), they should have some surge protectors with extra long cords.

Actually, I remember seeing some at Staples or maybe it was Wal-Mart that had about double the spots to plug things in that a regular power strip has. I should invest in some of those if they're still there next time I go shopping.

On Topic: Choosing both is probably smart :P you can't really go wrong with either system, it just comes down to Nintendo games vs Sega games.

well, it was always a HUGE deal in college.
and, it's so messy looking, i can't stand all the clutter.
but, it's just my opinion. And your fire-marshall dad isn't ours. Even at school, they are extremely picky about what we can have plugged up.
as for office and TV, i actually had an electrician install heavier Gauge (? i think it was what he called it) so that i could draw more power off of those outlets. The wires going thru the walls to the box are specifically designed for it. On the TV i do have this cool power switch box that allows me to completely cut-off flow to items i don't want to have residual drain from (like a LCD of a VCR...i HATE the green lights that blair into the night darkness).
Plus, hooking up a Laserdisc player or something like that, it's much more HEAVY and difficult, so they stay put, and have their power off.

I didn't mean to sound rude if I did. At night, I also turn off my power strip because it's an easy way to turn off all the led lights, but it isn't really a major hazard. At school we have literally hundreds (total I think is around 500-600) of high-end computers and monitors plugged into standard power strips constantly and no one ever says anything saying we can't (there's just no other way to do it, and the janitors aren't going to go through at night and turn them all off, that's just too much to ask of them). To most it would just seem like a waste of time to change out a console if you have the room to keep it there, but to each his own.

lotusoftheleaf:

I used to switch my consoles like that for awhile, but that was mainly because my TV had only two composite inputs and my satellite receiver took up one. Since I could only have one hooked up to the TV at a time, I just kept all the others unplugged. But my computer desk and TV stand are right next to each other with the wall outlet in between, so it was a pain to squeeze myself through the small space to reach the plugs and switch. I've since bought an input switch box for each A/V input, but I quickly filled both of those up so I'm probably going to need to daisy chain a third one in there.

Clutter isn't an issue with me. I just use rubber bands to keep all the wires organized. I use blue ones that I get from our newspapers, so I have an endless supply if any break. I use the same rubber bands to store my controllers so I like that they all look the same. :P
