Japanese Sega Saturn DVD cases

Just something I slapped together last night, a definite work in progress but shows off what I'm thinking for a Japanese Sega Saturn case. Used Ronde (roughly lol) as an example. Tried to keep everything as close to the original release. I like the logo on the spine being black because that's what you see with your Japanese imports sans spinecard.

Thoughts?

Is anybody even interested in Japanese Sega Saturn games?

YES! I like your template too. I have a bunch of Japanese Saturn games for cheap!  I made these before i joined the forums (and no wonder it wasnt accepted lol).




By the way: are you any good with japanese? I have a bunch of japanese fonts. I can help you make some nice high rez template. Such as the little green square on the front covers (which is in KATAKANA [i believe]) and i can only pick up some hiragana.

There was a Saturn slim dvd case project a couple of years ago that fizzled out but produced a bunch of covers for Japanese Saturn games. They were held over at the now defunct saurianunderground.com
Did most of those covers ever get uploaded here?

I'll admit my Saturn and PS1 have mod chips installed in them, here's why.

In 1996 I recieved my Saturn, I vowed to collect EVERY NTSC-U released game for the Saturn. I achieved that goal 12 years later. 6 months after achieving my goal, the company I worked for went under, that was 3 months before Christmas. I wasn't rolling in dough but I wasn't poor either, I classified under "average joe" How do I explain to my 2 and 6 year old daughters Santa couldn't bring them presents this year? OBVIOUSLY I couldn't so something had to be sold to help cover finances,. My huge Saturn collection was the obvious choice. It was a very hard decision as I spent tons of money and 12 years collecting the games. I didn't want to part with them so I bought a mod chip, copied all the games and sold the originals (to this day I'm still upset I had to do that). Once I saw what people where paying for some of the games I KNEW there was no way I'd get that collection back as I will NOT pay some person or bid against a person for example $200 for a 10+ year old game.

I don't think what I did is piracy for the simple reason Sega no longer sees ANY money on Saturn games as they killed off the console years ago andno longer produce games for it. Same goes with Dreamcast, Sega CD, 3DO, Turbografx 16CD. After seeing how much money are willing to pay for my saturn games, I did the same with ALL my classics that are no longer produced.

My PS2 and PS3 are NOT mod chipped as theyre still in production and Sony and developers still make money off the games, chipping those consoles to me is concidred Piracy as I'd be robbing from the developers and Sony. I support the game developers and console manufacturers until they no longer support the console, I do NOT support some idiot on Ebay wanting $200 + for a 10+ year old game. A game's value is worth what I say it is as it's MY money being spent, not some idiot on ebay.

I'm curious on your opinion Irvgotti. I do support the music industry as well as I'm HUGE on physical media, not digital media, I still buy my music on CD's.

Oh, side note, those 3rd party cartridges like the action replay are Saturn cart slot killers as the pcb is thicker than the Official Sega Memory Cart.

no on no, I wasn't saying you were blaming me, I was just curious on YOUR opinions on piracy as you said you're in the music industry. I have some friends who think what I did is piracy when I honestly don't think it is. to me piracy is robbing from the creator of such item, in which, I have not.

Gotcha glad thats clear lol, I also would like to clear up that i work "with" and not "for" the music industry. Im not under contract or payroll just freelance.

You can try to justify what you've done and claim it's something else but the end result is you have illegal duplicates without the originals. It's piracy plain and simple. On top of that you profited off of the prices you were able to receive from the same market you so disdain, all the while still enjoying the pirated copies w/o consent. You wanted to have your cake and eat it too, but it doesn't work that way.

You may have not foreseen services like the Wii's Virtual Console, XBL, PSN or rereleases on current handhelds, but nonetheless those companies retained those copyrights to all that old software for a reason: it's theirs. This isn't abandonware, and you are a pirate. It's disingenuous to try to put a spin on it so as to try to morally cleanse yourself of what you've done. If you are going to do wrong, at least have the backbone and decency to be honest about it.

How does a company like Gamestop get away with selling used games and making full profit while the developer sees nothing on the sale of a used game? The games where once purchased new at one time, just like my collection was, not the WHOLE collection but alot where.  Is it because there wasn't a "copy" or "backup" made?

I may just not understand the meaning I don't know. I've always thought piracy is when you copy an item or download an item in which you have never owned for free. I've never copied a game I've never owned nor have I donloaded a game. Years ago I remember my parents, myself, and EVERYBODY I knew with a VCR copymovies so I guess we where all pirates then.

Don't get me wrong, I honestly don't believe what I did is piracy, but in all honeslty if what I did IS piracy, then I'll admit I'm a pirate, I'll admit it, I don't like to say I am but I guess I view it differently. If I'm concidred a pirate, wel, then this sucks because I'm against it.

I put the games on Ebay because it's where I was told to sell classic games as places like gametop didn't take old games. I personally refuse to pay what some of the people paid for the games, I didn't know they'd sell for that much.

If I'm a pirate for what I did then I'll be destroying the discs plain and simple. I should've kept my mouth shut and I'd would've never known. This really sucks. I'm against piracy but I am a pirate? I'm taking down my cover requests as I no longer need them. Thanks to whoever started on the covers if you have.

Do you not realize by your own logic then that you've done worse? Reselling an item where the original maker does not see further sales is perfectly legal and moral, because they've already seen a sale for that initial copy and once the item leaves your hands you do not have access to it anymore until you reacquire it. By copying the game before reselling it you bridged the moral ground by choosing to retain a perfect 1:1 copy so you could keep enjoying the product w/o still having a right to do so (i.e. the author did not see another payment for another copy made), AND you made a nice and tidy sum selling off the original in the process. If you believe what Gamestop does is wrong then what you have done is doubly wrong. You have profited off the resale while also not paying the copyright holder for another copy.

I appreciate your input as I'm blind, or WAS blind to what a pirate is. I thank you Victor, I refuse to be labled a pirate, or, continue to be one as I'm against. im not against you, you did the right thing, I was obviously blind on the matter. I never thought to actually look up the proper term of piracy, I went by my OWN opinion on it. I honeslty thought that once you purchase an item, you have the right to do what you want with it, I didn't know once you get rid of the item you lose that right.

I took down my cover requests, if anybody has started on any of them keep going for other members but I no longer need them as I'll be destroying the discs.
