Outrun2SP:
Yep, only Japanese RPG games are cheap. Most shooter and action games cost more to import.

Crazy Taxi 3 XBOX version goes for around a few bucks, the Japanese version sells for $40 or $50.

I could do this all day ... supply and demand.  ;)
Xbox (especially the original xbox) was one of the worst selling consoles i can remember in Japan.  This pretty much makes any Xbox game price increase due to the fact that next no one bought the system.  That and Crazy Taxi is really popular in Japan and the 3rd Crazy Taxi was exclusive to the Xbox.

The difference can be much more dramatic on Mega Drive / Genesis games. Virtua Racing sells for $2 to 6$ in mint condition. Also MD games are usually easier to find in that condition because of the case, which are more resistant than SNES cardboard boxes. I sold my PAL MD and games years ago (silly me) but I just recently bought a japanese one and started buying games again. Virtua Racing, Bare Knuckle 3, Dragon Ball Z and Aladdin were like $40-45. Streets of Rage 3 PAL (Bare Knuckle 3) sells for that and much more here in Spain, and the japanese version keeps all the storyline and dialogue intact with no censorship ;)

Also, it's always great to buy any console best-sellers, like Sega Rally or Virtua Fighter 2 for the Sega Saturn, as they're awesome games that sold so many copies the japanese versions sell for like 4 bucks. Good old cd jewel cases are easier to replace when broken, too.

So it's not always RPG games. My whole MD and Saturn collection are 100% japanese (except for Guardian Heroes and Exhumed/Powerslave which I had the luck to get the PAL versions for) and they're perfectly playable with my nil japanese knowledge. Ok so I dont' get what the characters on Baku Baku say when they win, but I think it's no big deal if I got the game in mint condition for $3 :D

(Also all these games look great on my huge old CRT when connected by RGB/scart)

First post, btw :)
