Sorry you feel unappreciated.
Join the club.  ;)

It was not my intention to flame you or make you feel unappreciated. If i did, I apologize.
I was only trying to 'splain why some of the covers are not up to current standards and why they are formatted the way they are.
I certainly wish you had been around a few years ago. <-- I am dead serious

I am more than happy to re-scan any of my boxes to provide flaps, etc. when I get home.
I am sorry if you got the impression that we all thought the N64 covers were fine....  We were never really satisifed with a lot of them.

As to the formatting, eventually someone is going to come along with another idea, a new box to store them in, etc.
There were no mini-boxes back in the day and we spent many days arguing/discussing and voting about the format.
I believe there was even an outcry to actually produce something that could be mounted on cardboard to construct an actual cardboard case.

Kind of like the PS1 and Dreamcast covers. I never had any desire to convert my PS1 or dreamcast games to DVD cases, so all the covers I have provided and want are original CD case type.
I have nothing against the people who convert theirs to DVD style, I just like mine original.
There is room here for different formats.

I was really interested in scanning my manuals, but then people started arguing/requesting that the manuals be taken apart and scanned so that they could be printed out and put back into a booklet. (Perhaps that is now being done)
I tried it, and pretty much crapped one of my manuals trying to get it back together, so, I am not doing that.

It would be a shame to see this project die. I don't own a N64 anymore and I'm not planning to pick one up again but I was really fond of that minibox idea.

Rest assured this project will not die. I haven't made any more mini boxes since my first but I still plan on making a bunch of them for all my n64 games. With many of my projects I come up with I simply don't have enough time to carry each full on. Whenever I present a new idea I try to plant the seed for others to get axcoted about it and help me with the project. There are way too many projects for me to consistantly contribute to all of them. I usually contribute in spurts. This past week was genesis, before that psp, before that nes etc etc. ShoothimNow has done a great job continuing my idea. I'm not on my computer right now to help you out with this but I have some more mini boxes in the works & a template that I'll try and get to you soon. Good luck with converting the exsisting scans you have :)

Really guys?

Starting with the first post, I already see a storm brewing.

I have downloaded every Nintendo 64 cover on this site and I am surprised on how badly the covers look.  With half-assed red bottom bars, grainy pixels, and stickers / writings, I know that with some small edits with some new scans, every case could look top-notch.
"How bad the covers look" sounds mean, no matter what your intentions were. Especially here:
Quote
stickers / writings
Obviously, if a scan without a sticker was available, it would have been used. "Bass Hunter 64" doesn't sound like the kind of game most people have, meaning TheValeman probably bought it with real money. Judging by the sticker, it was from a video rental store. Want to fix that cover with new scans? That will be $11.18 for a game nobody on this site probably has. If they do have it, they probably wouldn't care about the sticker on the scan since they won't be playing it anytime soon.
Quote
Personally I am requesting for scans of these sides (most covers have poo quality green spines that are easily fixable), but I am sure I speak for a lot of uploaders when I say that some better quality scans would most likely promote the creation of newer N64 Vertical Covers (and possibly N64 Mini Cases).
That just sounds rude and disrespectful. I'm sure I speak for the people who uploaded those scans in the first place when I say that it was a pain in the ass to get this far. Most of the time, "better scans" would be posted if they are available. This is the request forum, so I'll let that slide. Maybe someone somewhere is sitting on Bass Hunter 64.

This would have gone over much better:
About a month ago, Shenske introduced Nintendo 64 Mini Cases and I am still inlove with this concept.  After pestering him for the template, I was able to print out a Super Smash Bros Mini Case.  However... like an addiction, one was not enough.  I have downloaded every Nintendo 64 cover on this site, and some of the covers don't look very good.  With low quality red bottom bars, grainy pixels, and stickers / writings, I know that with some small edits with some new scans, every case could look top-notch. I know many of these problems could be out of the scanner's control, but the fact remains the covers are a lower quality than most of the other covers on the site.

TheValeman's first post is a little angry and a little baffled.
I am somewhat annoyed at the tone of this post to be honest. A lot of people spent a considerable amount of money aquiring the boxes in an attempt to get all covers available for people to use and this is what we get?

Some of you should try acquiring decent boxes for the N64. I personally spent hundreds of dollars getting them from Ebay etc and the boxes weren't always the quality the seller advertised. These things are getting harder and harder to obtain ...that's the nature of the beast when dealing with cardboard boxes. The boxes were scanned at 300dpi and formatted for Universal Game cases as these were the cheapest way of protecting carts etc.

How many actual scans have some of you provided? How many N64 boxes have you purchased? Before you go mouthing off about the quality of existing content maybe you should actually contribute to the cause. You might just appreciate the price some people have paid just getting to where we are at today.

umm ok... ill start uploading my 50 boxes right now as I planned... thanks for being an ass...  way to shoot the gun there tex.  Check the raws section first... dude...
CShaffer
Neither I or TheValeman knew that you posted raw scans under a different name. Whenever I upload scans, I use "Doom" for the author.
Quote
I have been in search for the red flap, yellow flap, and purple US spine for Super Mario 64 for soo long it isn't funny.  I dont own the box.  Maybe I should just go buy it instead of asking admins because they always give me a freaking hard time.  Would be less of a hassle instead of pleasing ignorant people.
If you're arguing with someone, calling them ignorant doesn't suddenly make them understand your point of view.

TheValeman's second post. Still angry and annoyed, but now moreso.
Your problem ... not mine ... if you want to go apeshit over someone not appreciating the tone your comments over other people's work then if that makes you happy go right ahead. This whole business is a hobby .... and an illegal one at that if you consider the copyright infringements going on here. Some people take things way too seriously .... I did when I purchased truckloads of boxes off E-Bay purely to contribute to this place for instance. Obviously you do too. You weren't around at the time maybe maybe a half dozen off us were trying to get the N64 section to where it is today. As a site it relies on people contributing and there were piss-all of us at the time. If we'd known people were going to make verticals or complete mini's and needed the flaps we'd have posted them.

Personally, I think vertical covers are total and utter crap. They don't reflect the way the original creators wanted their artwork seen, otherwise they would've created ... oh I don't know ... vertical covers in the first place ALA the Jap N64 covers. But while I have an opinion on those I don't go around saying that vertical covers are crap. That's plain disrespectful of the effort they may have put into creating them etc.

Lastly, am I psychic and meant to know that you weren't posting scans under your forum name? And even if you did post under your forum name it wouldn't have stopped me saying the tone of your comments weren't particularly nice. Everyone has an opinion and is allowed to express it. You did. So did I. But you don't see me deleting my stuff because of it. If I did you could kiss goodbye to 70% of the N64 content here and I could easily do so if I wanted to.

The tone of the following post is really bad IMO.
Quote
As a site it relies on people contributing and there were piss-all of us at the time. If we'd known people were going to make verticals or complete mini's and needed the flaps we'd have posted them.
facepalm... this is why I am asking for scans... And your rage pertains to new N64 scans how?  The ones we have are crap, sorry, its the truth.  Scan some new scans to get rid of the old.  Don't scan your covers if you don't want.  Could care less.  If no one wants to rescan, hope everyone is happy with stickers on their covers.

I am just so grateful that here at TCP we are honoring those artists by
Quote
reflecting the way the original creators wanted their artwork seen
with stickers.

Still squinting my eyes trying to get the hidden message where you are telling me that new N64 scans are useless... I don't exactly see your point of view.  All you are basically saying is that I am completely ungrateful with the covers that you have and that you have the power to remove them because I am being an ass by stating they are useless.  Well, I don't want to sound like I am doing your job... but I only asked for new N64 scans, not completed cases, but scans (RAWS).  I still don't grasp your concept on why that is so hard..

Quote
relies on people contributing and there were piss-all of us at the time
Key word --> all of us at the time

That was then, this is now.  People are not re-uploading N64 cases because once someone stated "COMPLETE N64 SECTION", scans for the N64 has become rare.  Trying to re-boost the quality of the site, and out of all the people here, I think an ADMIN would appreciate that

Just getting this far in analysis was time-consuming, so I stop here. Some better wording in the original post probably would have stopped a lot of this.

Let's just summarise it as ...

#1 pissed #2 off with a comment
#2 retaliated pissing #1 off
#1 retaliated
... continued. Except others came down on either/both sides

... and leave it at that. Everyone has an opinion and voiced it and there's NOTHING to be gained taking it any further.

We all agree that some scans aren't the best. We all agree that anyone can submit scans. We all agree that everyone is entitled to an opinion. Doom was right ... if it were worded differently I probably wouldn't have commented in the first place so I am happy to accept I caused this whole train wreck by taking offence to what was probably unintentional on ShoothimNow's part.

If falling on my sword is required to get people back into the right frame of mind .. that being creating great content for others to enjoy .... then just go ahead and delete my account here Doom ole buddy.

... Ok moving on. Easiest way to put this a mile behind us is RESULTS. So we need to get scanning all the extra flaps that aren't on the UGC covers we have on the site. And hey if someone in the community happens to have a higher quality box than we have scanned currently then cool ... Scann'er in :)

Even if you find a website or link that has a decent picture (if you are bored with life and wish to spend some time searching the web), links to those pages would also be amazing.  I know GameScanner.org has a bunch of high res scans, however they too are missing the red and yellow flaps  :(

So, I've been away from a computer for a few days and come back and see THIS! DANG yall are a lively bunch!  ;)
Arseen ....I'm afraid to ask how you found that YouTube bunny...  :D
Ya know, after reading all this I know people could of said things different, however, it does show that ALL OF US are very passionate about this project.
ShoothimNow - A soft answer turns away wrath.
TheValeman - better are the wounds of a friend than the kisses of an enemy.

Yes, I know I'm the one who put the list of the 21 N64 covers that could us a "facelift". And with that being said, I will start looking into buying those boxes, however! I am not Photoshop savvy, so I will need someone to touch up those covers for me once I get the boxes.
And just for the record, I don't own ANY of those games, I would just LOVE to see the N64 areas polished up a tad.  ;)

And, I want to give a special thank you to slash000, TheValeman, wshbrngr, Exist2Inspire, Rayne, Jedimonkey, Mayor McCheese, Ragnarok2103, DoubleDownOn11, jonsered, BackLash, ajnrules, 4tyGames, RockinX, JohnnyDX, and Aussie Ben. for all the time and money you guys put into the N64 covers. :)

I am working on creating a list of SNES games for covers needed and some time in the near future I will probably start buying all those boxes as well. (I already have Auction links for the complete "A" list of SNES boxes.)

Kinda put off by the whole outcome that happened and the minis have been on hold lately.  And also waiting on some new raws. Need more flaps before I can do anything
